The Company’s primary focus is to develop distributed power generators that can operate on various fuel sources to future-proof against an ever-changing energy economy.\nJob Purpose\nThe Field Service Engineer will supervise the onsite installation of the KARNO™ Power Module at customer sites, and lead the commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and on-site customer support for the successful deployment of the KARNO Power Modules. This position is part of Hyliion's field service organization, which supports KARNO installations across the United States. Current deployments are primarily in defense and data center applications. The position begins with a training period of approximately three to four months in Milford, OH, working alongside the research, development, and engineering teams as KARNO units are built and serviced during final testing, including training on heat engine fundamentals, PLCs, HMIs, and advanced control systems. The position then transitions to field installation, commissioning, and long-term on-site support at customer locations, initially across the West Coast and expanding to other regions as the installed base grows.\nAI at Hyliion\nAt Hyliion, AI is core to how we work. We equip every team member with leading AI tools and count on you to use them - to move faster, solve harder problems, and help us realize the full potential of KARNO technology for the world.\nDuties and Responsibilities\nProvide on-site maintenance, troubleshooting, and break-fix support for deployed KARNO units, with remote support from the engineering team.\nDiagnose issues using remote monitoring systems and troubleshooting logs.\nTroubleshoot controls, instrumentation, and high-voltage electrical system issues.\nSupervise installation work at customer sites and provide the required technical support.\nServe as the primary customer-facing technical contact during installation and support engagements.\nComplete required checklists, service reports, restart logs, and product issue logs.\nWork with the Engineering, Manufacturing, and Operations teams to communicate field issues, troubleshoot problems, and develop solutions.\nTravel to customer sites and operate a Hyliion service vehicle as needed.\nContribute to the development of field service processes and standards as the service organization scales.\nAdditional duties and responsibilities as assigned, needed, or required for the business.\nQualifications\nReasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.\nQualifications include:\nEducation, Experience and Certifications\nDegree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Controls Engineering, or a related engineering discipline\n5 years of relevant field service and troubleshooting experience required.\nElectrical experience working with high-voltage systems up to approximately 800V required.\nExperience with advanced control systems, PLCs, HMIs, instrumentation, and alarm-based troubleshooting required.\nValid driver's license required.\nOSHA certification preferred.\nElectrical certifications, particularly electrical safety certification, preferred.\nBackground in energy, power generation, or distributed generation preferred.\nExperience with energy devices using natural gas or other alternative fuels preferred.\nPrior experience supporting data center, defense, or distributed generation applications preferred.\nSkills and Abilities\nStrong communication skills, including the ability to work directly with customers as the on-site technical representative.\nAbility to work independently in the field with remote engineering support.\nAbility to diagnose and resolve issues across controls, instrumentation, and electrical systems.\nFlexibility to adapt to changing schedules, site conditions, and customer needs.\nAbility to operate a service van and work at customer sites for extended assignments.\nAbility to document service work accurately and completely.\nRole Classification and Working Conditions\nThis is a salaried, exempt-level position.
