The Company’s primary focus is to develop distributed power generators that can operate on various fuel sources to future-proof against an ever-changing energy economy.\nJob Purpose\nThe Technician, Engine Assembly is responsible for the high-accuracy assembly of Karno™ linear generator engine modules. This role supports scaling limited-production builds of a next-generation linear power generation platform.\nUnlike traditional rotating engines, this role requires exceptional discipline in axial alignment, stack-up control, sealing integrity, and cleanliness, as well as close collaboration with engineering and quality during design maturation, testing, and iteration.\nDuties and Responsibilities\nLinear Engine & Genset Assembly\nAssemble Karno™ linear engine subassemblies, including:Reactor, Heater and Chillers\nSeal systems (dynamic, static, high-temperature, and gas sealing)\nLinear generator interfaces (stator/translator interfaces, housings)\nStructural frames and alignment-critical assemblies\n\nPerform axial and concentric alignment of linear components to tight tolerances.\nExecute precision stack-up controlled assemblies where tolerance accumulation directly impacts efficiency and reliability.\nApply torque, preload, and fastening sequences per controlled build instructions.\nSealing, Cleanliness & Handling\nInstall and verify critical sealing interfaces supporting:High-pressure, high-heat environments\nThermal cycling and dynamic motion\n\nMaintain engine-grade cleanliness standards, including:FOD prevention\nProper lubrication and material handling\nProtection of sealing surfaces and linear bearing interfaces\n\nQuality & Process Compliance\nFollow detailed work instructions, engineering drawings, torque tables, and build travelers.\nPerform in-process inspections and document critical characteristics.\nEnsure part serialization and traceability for engine-critical components.\nIdentify, document, and escalate:Fitment issues\nStack-up or alignment risks\nSeal integrity or assembly-induced failure risks\n\nTest, Teardown & Iteration Support\nSupport pre-test mechanical verification, leak checks, and readiness reviews.\nAssist with post-test teardown, inspection, and failure analysis.\nRebuild and reconfigure engines based on test feedback and engineering changes.\nWork closely with manufacturing and design engineers to refine assembly sequences and tooling.\nContinuous Improvement & Scale-Up\nProvide hands-on feedback to improve:Assembly methods\nTooling and fixtures\nError-proofing and standard work\n\nSupport PFMEA actions, pilot build readiness, and transition toward limited production.\nParticipate in safety, quality, and lean manufacturing initiatives.\nAdditional duties and responsibilities as assigned, needed, or required for the business.\nQualifications\nReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.\nQualifications include:\nEducation, Experience and CertificationsHigh school diploma or GED required\nTechnical certification, military technical training, or trade school preferred\n 3-7 years of precision mechanical assembly experience, ideally in:Advanced engine or power systems\nAerospace or pressure systems\nPrototype or pilot manufacturing environments\nHigh-tolerance electromechanical assemblies\n\nExperience with:Seal installation and verification\nPress fits and interference fits\nTorque and preload-controlled fastening\n\nExperience with free-piston, linear motors/generators, or non-rotating engine architectures preferred\nBackground in pressure vessels, combustion systems, or high-temperature assemblies preferred\nFamiliarity with prototype test cycles and teardown-driven learning preferred\nExperience working under ISO 9001 / AS9100-style quality systems preferred\nExposure to electromechanical integration (mechanical + stator/translator interfaces) preferred\n\nSkills and AbilitiesStrong mechanical aptitude with emphasis on linear motion systems\nProficiency with precision measurement tools:Micrometers, bore gauges, calipers, dial indicators\nFeeler gauges and alignment tools\n\nAbility to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and assembly schematicsComfortable working with build documentation, travelers, and MES systems\n\nExtreme attention to detail and precision\nDiscipline in controlled assembly processes\nStrong mechanical intuition and problem-solving skills\nComfort working in evolving designs and pilot environments\nOwnership of build quality and engine performance outcomes\nRole Classification and Working Conditions\nThis is an hourly, non-exempt-level position. This position typically works in a production/assembly/engineering lab environment.
