Learn More\nAbout The Role\nJob Title: Test Automation Engineer\nLocation: Palo Alto, California (Hybrid, 3 days per week)\nThe Cloud Test Automation Engineer will be primarily responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining automated testing frameworks and quality processes for cloud-based and device software. This person will work closely with various teams to ensure reliable, compliant, and high-quality software releases, supporting both developer operations and IT in the cloud and on premises. In addition to test automation, the engineer will contribute to CI/CD workflows, selected cloud operations, and medical device documentation activities. The role requires flexibility, strong problem-solving skills, and a willingness to grow into the regulated medical device domain, ensuring compliance with standards such as HIPAA, SOC2, HITRUST, and other federal and state regulations. To be successful, the candidate should be customer-focused (internal), comfortable collaborating across development and production, and technically adept in a fast-paced start-up environment. This position reports to the Senior Manager, Cloud and will be a key contributor to the Cloud and DevOps Teams \nRESPONSIBILITIES: \nDesign, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks for cloud and device software. \nIntegrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to ensure consistent quality and rapid feedback. \nDefine and improve test strategies, coverage, and quality metrics across cloud and device platforms. \nCollaborate with software engineers to identify test gaps and improve testability of systems. \nExecute and automate functional, integration, regression, and system-level tests. \nTroubleshoot test failures and support root-cause analysis across test and production environments. \nSupport cloud environments and pipelines as needed, including basic AWS operations and infrastructure automation. \nEnsure testing processes and documentation meet medical device and compliance requirements (HIPAA, SOC2, HITRUST, GDPR). \nContribute to test plans, validation documentation, and change management artifacts. \nKNOWLEDGE AND SKILL: \nStrong experience with test automation frameworks and tools (e.g., PyTest, Selenium/playwright, API testing) \nExperience designing automated tests for cloud-based and distributed systems \nProficiency in CI/CD pipelines with emphasis on automated testing \nProficiency in scripting and programming languages such as Python and Bash \nWorking knowledge of AWS foundational services (EC2, ECS, EKS, Lambda) \nFamiliarity with Docker and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform \nUnderstanding of software quality, validation, and compliance in regulated environments \nStrong investigation, troubleshooting, and documentation skills \nTeam-oriented, intellectually curious, and adaptable to evolving responsibilities \nEDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: \nBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field \n5+ years of relevant experience in the software industry \n3+ years of experience in test automation, software quality, or development roles \n3+ years of experience with the AWS ecosystem (e.g., ECS, EKS, S3, EC2, IAM, etc.) \nProficiency with programming, scripting, and configuration languages including Python and Bash \nDemonstrated experience with infrastructure as code and configuration management tools, such as Terraform \nContainerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes \nExperience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines with integrated automated testing \nPHYSICAL DEMANDS: \nThis position is based in Hyperfine's office in Palo Alto, CA (minimum 3 days per week) \nTop-notch written and communication skills in English \nAbility to take part in on-call rotation to maintain service uptime \nAbility to use and program a computer for 8 hours a day, five days a week \nApplicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship now or in the future of any employment Visa.\nThe annual base salary for this position is between $131,000 - $150,000.
