Our Tech R&D team plays a critical role in turning that vision into reliable real-world systems - designing, building, commissioning, and supporting the automation behind our 3D printer systems in Finland, the UK, and future deployments across Europe.\nWe are now looking for a (Lead) Automation Engineer to join us in Espoo, Finland. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys designing and building electrical and automation systems from the ground up together with the team - from architecture, component selection, and electrical topology to PLC software, documentation, testing, and commissioning. You will work in a collaborative team environment with daily stand-ups, regular technical discussions, and shared problem-solving across disciplines.\nThis role is also ideal for someone who is already strong in automation engineering and has the potential to grow into a future Team Lead role as the team expands. You will not join as a people manager on day one, but you should be excited by the idea of gradually taking on more ownership, coaching others, and eventually leading a small team of 2-3 members after 8-10 months.\nWhat It Means In Practice:\nBuilding and owning electrical and automation systems for Hyperion’s 3D concrete printing solutions in Finland and future European deployments\n\nCreating scalable and robust hardware and software architecture for industrial systems built from the ground up\n\nDesigning electrical topology, electrical schematics, and control system layouts for new and evolving machine systems\n\nProgramming PLCs using IEC61131 languages, especially Structured Text and, where relevant, Function Block Diagram\n\nSupporting HMI development, safety-related automation functions, and reliable communication between automation devices\n\nCreating and maintaining clear technical documentation, including electrical schematics, cabinet layouts, testing protocols, architecture documentation, and commissioning handover materials\n\nSupporting wiring, testing, commissioning, upgrades, and troubleshooting together with the wider engineering team\n\nLeading or supporting root cause analysis for automation-related issues and implementing practical corrective actions\n\nParticipating actively in daily stand-ups and technical routines, giving clear updates on progress, blockers, risks, and next steps\n\nHelping improve development, testing, documentation, and handover practices so systems are easier to maintain and scale over time\n\nTo Succeed In This Role, We Expect:\nYou have a degree in Automation Engineering, Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field\n\nYou have solid professional experience in industrial automation, ideally in machinery, equipment, or R&D-heavy environments\n\nYou have hands-on experience designing electrical schematics, electrical topology, and practical control system layouts\n\nYou have experience designing control systems using Beckhoff hardware and TwinCAT, with understanding that goes beyond low-level PLC programming and includes higher-level hardware and software architecture.\n\nYou can create and maintain structured technical documentation for both electrical and automation scope\n\nYou are comfortable with hands-on engineering work when needed, including testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and occasional wiring support as part of the team\n\nYou communicate clearly in both verbal and written form, and can explain technical progress, blockers, risks, decisions, and documentation in a way that other engineers and stakeholders can follow.\n\nYou have experience owning the technical scope of a system, subsystem, or project - for example as a lead engineer or technical owner - and can work independently after onboarding while creating structure and ensuring maintainability, safety, and long-term reliability.\n\nYou have experience coaching less senior engineers.\n\nWhat we offer:\nCompetitive compensation package, including benefits and stock options\n\nAdditional paid holiday weeks during your first year of employment\n\nOccupational healthcare through Terveystalo\n\nEUR 300 per year for dental care\n\nEUR 200 per year for leisure activities\n\nA hands-on role at the core of Hyperion’s 3D printing technology\n\nThe opportunity to own meaningful automation scope from design to commissioning and support\n\nA hybrid role based in Espoo, with full relocation support for candidates joining from outside Finland\n\nThe chance to work on systems deployed in Finland, the UK, and future projects across Europe\n\nA growing engineering environment where your improvements to documentation, testing, and ways of working will have visible impact\n\nA clear path to grow into broader technical ownership and, over time, a future Team Lead role\n\nSounds exciting?
