As we continue to expand our digital capability, we are investing in strengthening our delivery of modern software engineering, DevOps, and product-aligned services.\nThis role represents a foundational hire within our SDLC and engineering capability, providing the opportunity to shape how i3Works approaches end-to-end software delivery-from design through to implementation and live service.\nRole Summary:\nThe SDLC Consultant / Lead will act as a subject matter expert across the full software development lifecycle, combining hands-on technical capability with consulting expertise.\nThis individual will:\nAct as the first senior engineering capability hire, shaping internal standards and offerings\n\nDeliver into client environments in roles aligned to DevOps, Full Stack, or SDLC improvement\n\nSupport the development of a scalable capability, including frameworks, accelerators, and potential future team growth\n\nEntrepreneurial mindset with a desire to build capability from the ground up\n\nComfortable operating as a sole specialist initially, with a view to scaling\n\nAdaptable and delivery-focused across varied client environments\n\nCollaborative and aligned with i3Works values and culture\n\nThe role blends:\nTechnical delivery (hands-on engineering where required)\n\nConsulting (advisory, transformation, and delivery leadership)\n\nCapability building (internal IP, services, and mentoring)\n\nKey Responsibilities:\nClient Delivery\nDeliver into client roles across DevOps, Full Stack Engineering, or SDLC transformation\n\nDesign and implement modern development, CI/CD, and deployment practices\n\nSupport cloud-based delivery environments (e.g. AWS, Azure)\n\nImprove development lifecycle efficiency, quality, and governance\n\nEngage stakeholders to align technical delivery with programme outcomes\n\nCapability Development\nDefine and evolve i3Works’ SDLC / engineering service offering\n\nDevelop reusable assets (patterns, playbooks, accelerators)\n\nShape delivery approaches across DevOps and Full Stack domains\n\nContribute to business development and solution design\n\nInternal Contribution\nMentor and support colleagues developing technical capability\n\nSupport recruitment and onboarding of future engineers\n\nContribute to internal initiatives and continuous improvement\n\nEssential Skills and Experience:\nStrong experience across software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices\n\nProven delivery in DevOps environments (CI/CD, IaC, automation)\n\nExperience with full stack development (front-end + back-end technologies)\n\nStrong understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or equivalent)\n\nExperience working in Agile / product-led environments\n\nAbility to operate in both technical and consulting contexts\n\nStrong stakeholder engagement and communication skills\n\nDesirable Skills and Experience:\nExperience in UK public sector or secure environments\n\nKnowledge of DevSecOps, platform engineering, or SRE practices\n\nExperience defining capability or service offerings\n\nFamiliarity with frameworks such as DDAT, GDS, or similar\n\nRelevant certifications (cloud, DevOps, Agile, etc.)\n\nExperience contributing to business development or bids\n\nThe suitable candidate will need National Security Vetting (NSV) security clearance. They will, preferably, already hold NSV to a high or very high standard, but must be able, and willing, to achieve it\n\nRole Location\nThis role is a full-time position (40 hours/5 days a week)\nOur consultants are expected to work in a hybrid environment, in accordance with our clients. We require our people to be within an easily commutable distance of our Bristol office and to be able to co-locate at our client locations, which are typically 50 miles of Bristol or along the M4 corridor.
