This role performs precise measurement and inspection activities on production parts, tooling, fixtures, equipment, and facilities to ensure compliance with engineering specifications and customer requirements. The position works closely with Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Tooling, Quality, Maintenance, and Launch teams.\nTechnicians at the T3 level are expected to serve as technical experts, lead complex scanning projects, mentor junior technicians, and support cross-functional problem-solving activities.\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities\nPerform 3D laser scanning and dimensional inspection of components, assemblies, tooling, fixtures, dies, and manufacturing equipment.\nGenerate accurate point cloud data and CAD comparisons using metrology software.\nAnalyze dimensional variation and identify deviations from engineering specifications.\nCreate detailed inspection reports, color maps, deviation analyses, and measurement summaries.\nSupport tooling tryouts, production launches, engineering changes, and validation activities.\nConduct first-piece inspections and product dimensional studies.\nCollaborate with engineering teams to evaluate tooling performance and manufacturing capability.\nAssist in root cause investigations related to dimensional, quality, and fit-up concerns.\nMaintain calibration and accuracy of laser scanning and metrology equipment.\nDevelop and improve scanning procedures, measurement techniques, and best practices.\nTravel to manufacturing facilities to support launches, tooling modifications, production issues, and facility-related measurement needs.\nSupport projects throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico as required.\nFollow all safety, quality, environmental, and company procedures.\nEducation\nAssociate degree in Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Quality Technology, Metrology, or a related field preferred.\nEquivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.\nExperience\n5+ years of experience in dimensional inspection, metrology, laser scanning, tooling validation, or automotive manufacturing environments.\nDemonstrated experience leading complex measurement or launch-related projects.\nTechnical Skills\nProficiency with 3D laser scanning systems, mainly FARO\nExperience with other systems could be useful:\nHexagon\nLeica\nCreaform\nZEISS\nExperience with metrology software, mainly PolyWorks\nExperience with other systems could be useful:\nGeomagic\nSpatialAnalyzer\nPC-DMIS\nGOM Inspect\nAbility to:\nRead and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T\nAnalyze CAD models and scan data\nCreate dimensional reports and inspection documentation\nPerform tolerance analysis and problem diagnosis\nKnowledge of:\nAutomotive tooling and manufacturing processes\nDimensional control strategies\nStatistical measurement concepts\nQuality systems and continuous improvement
