Our team is building a dynamic network to meet the changing demands for electricity and increasingly, renewable electricity - safely, securely and sustainably in the communities we serve.\nAt SP Energy Networks, we know people are central to building a better future, quicker and we are seeking new talent to join our team.\nWhat you’ll be doing\nThe Transmission Technician is responsible for acting as the single point of contact for the management and reliability of the standby diesel generator fleet across Transmission Network Operations substations.\nThe role ensures continuity of generator performance through effective coordination of maintenance, fault response, and stakeholder engagement, supported by Central Planning & Admin and Substation Delivery teams.\nAct as the single point of contact for the management of the standby diesel generator fleet across Transmission substations\nManage generator maintenance, faults, and defects to ensure reliability and availability\nCoordinate with service partners to schedule planned maintenance, fuel top-ups, and reconditioning activities\nAttend and contribute to fortnightly service partner meetings and monthly Substation Lead Engineer reviews\nLiaise with Transmission Schedulers to secure SAP access and additional fitter support when required\nWork with Central Planning & Admin to raise and manage orders for maintenance, faults, and defect resolution\nAnalyse PS Alerts reports to identify recurring issues, non-runners, and trends, developing effective repair plans\nEstablish and maintain an inventory of critical spare parts, including components for LVAC automatic changeover schemes\nSupport and upskill fitters and technicians in generator maintenance and fault/defect repairs\nFacilitate safe execution of maintenance and repair work, including issuing safety documentation within authorised limits\nCarry out hands-on maintenance and fault repair activities where required\nWhat you’ll bring\nStrong technical knowledge of diesel generators and associated LV systems\nExperience managing maintenance, faults, and defects in a utility or industrial environment\nAbility to analyse data and identify trends to drive reliability improvements\nExperience coordinating contractors and service partners\nKnowledge of safety procedures and permit-to-work systems (e.g. SAP or equivalent)\nEffective communication and stakeholder management skills\nProactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement\nMinimum Criteria\nRelevant technical qualification (e.g. electrical or mechanical engineering)\nProven experience working with diesel generators or similar plant equipment\nExperience in fault diagnosis and maintenance delivery\nUnderstanding of health and safety requirements in a high-risk environment\nFull UK driving licence\nWhat’s in it for you\nAs well as a competitive salary which is reviewed annually, you can also enjoy a number of other benefits.
