We build solar-powered aircraft that fly at 60,000 ft for weeks at a time, delivering persistent, affordable, and scalable presence from this layer of the atmosphere.\nMission\nRe-establish and maintain dominance in the Stratosphere.\nWhat you’ll do\nNetwork Engineering:\nDesign, deploy, and maintain networking infrastructure\nConfigure and manage routers, switches, VPNs, firewalls (including Palo Alto), and network segmentation for both on-site and field-deployed systems\nSolve novel networking challenges at field events and exercises-each deployment may involve different radio systems, routing paradigms, and connectivity constraints\nBuild and document network architectures that are flexible enough to support rapidly evolving mission requirement\nSecurity & Compliance:\nOwn and drive the IATT and ATO process end-to-end, building on Icarus’s existing IATT foundation. There will be lots of support from the IT team, the software team and the firmware team, but you will own the network.\nConduct and manage STIG reviews, ACAS/Nessus vulnerability scans, and remediation across compute systems, cameras, and other networked components\nCoordinate directly with government cybersecurity leads on compliance artifacts, scan submissions, and risk acceptance packages\nDevelop and maintain security documentation including system security plans, network diagrams, and compliance evidence packages\nBuild approved CI/CD pipelines so that products can continue to be improved after authorization\nAI-Assisted Operations:\nUse AI tools daily to accelerate compliance documentation, network analysis, vulnerability remediation, and configuration management\nBuild AI into production workflows-not just prototyping. AI will be an integral part of how you do this job. Before AI this job would not have been possible by just one person\nStay current with evolving AI capabilities and continuously find new ways to apply them to security and networking challenges\n\nWhat we’re looking for\n5+ years of experience in network engineering, IT security, or a related field\nDeep hands-on expertise with VPNs, routers, switches, firewalls, and network architecture-you can configure, troubleshoot, and design from scratch\nDirect experience with the government IATT process-you have taken at least one system through a full IATT end-to-end and have seen the ATO process\nFamiliarity with STIGs, ACAS/Nessus scanning, and DoD cybersecurity compliance frameworks (RMF, NIST 800-171)\nExperience working with or supporting DoD/military customers on network security\nComfort working across satellite communications, tactical radio networks, and conventional IP networking\nStrong documentation skills-you can produce the compliance artifacts that government reviewers need\n\nBonus points for\nFamiliarity with Tailscale or similar mesh networking solutions\nExperience with CI/CD pipeline design and DevSecOps practices\nBackground in aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated industries\nFamiliarity with CUI/SBU data handling requirements\n\nWhy Icarus\nMeaningful equity\nTop market salary and bonuses\nHealth, dental, and vision insurance\nFactory in El Segundo\nReal ownership, real hardware, real flight\nSmall team, massive responsibility (but growing very fast)\nHigh signal (engineering) to noise (management) culture\nDream desk setup\nDaily lunch\nUnlimited Celsius\nThis is not a normal IT job\nWe are pioneers, not corporate managers. Icarus deliberately optimizes for a high signal (engineering) to noise (management) ratio, where engineering, manufacturing, flight, and execution matter more than process, politics, or management overhead.\nYour users are engineers. They will find the edge of anything you deploy and they will tell you about it. Support them accordingly.\nYou are supporting a factory, not just an office. Test benches, CAD workstations, license servers, and manufacturing equipment are all in scope.\nYou are building the function, not maintaining it. There is no existing Network Engineering team, no inherited backlog, and no one to tell you which ticketing system to use.\nWe expect full extreme ownership. This is a high-trust, no-BS team, and everyone pulls their weight.\nWe want builders. No hand-holding, no fluff, no fake projects. Real problems, real data, and real results.\nYou must thrive under pressure, learn fast, and solve problems across functions.\nWe move fast. We expect results and an obsession with quality and speed.\nNo tourists. No bystanders. Only builders.\nHiring process\nIntro call\nInterview with Head of Operations\nMeet the CEO and team in-person\nUS salary range\n$115,000 - $165,000 USD\nThe salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only. Actual salary may vary based on (but not limited to) work experience, education and/or training, critical skills, and/or business considerations. Highly competitive equity grants are considered part of Icarus' total compensation package.","description_format":"text","description_chars":5133,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":5,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Equity","Vision insurance"],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"United States","iso":"US","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Network Security"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-12T09:29:28Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":12,"band":"cold","label":"Long shot","p_open":1,"p_active":0.351,"p_room":0.35,"age_days":51,"expected_fill_days":22,"reasons":["conf:2","stale_co","win:tail"],"computed_at":"2026-10-10T05:45:15Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":165000,"is_top_pay":true},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/icarus-network-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/icarus-network-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-11T04:33:55Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":3367,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":1633,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-10-12T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":678654},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=678654"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Ficarus-network-engineer"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Ficarus-network-engineer"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Ficarus-network-engineer"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/icarus-network-engineer\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Ficarus-network-engineer"}]}
