This position combines hands-on quantitative analysis with an understanding of epidemiology, surveillance systems, and public health data.\nThe ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in either public health surveillance, including syndromic surveillance and ESSENCE, or analytical programming and data analysis using R or comparable tools. This role offers the opportunity to apply those skills to meaningful public health surveillance work while developing additional expertise and working closely with project colleagues and clients.\nKey Responsibilities\nMonitor and analyze public health surveillance data using ESSENCE, R, and other analytical tools to identify trends, patterns, anomalies, data-quality issues, and potential public health events of interest.\nSupport enhanced and time-sensitive surveillance activities, including analysis, reporting, and development or maintenance of analytical and dashboard products using CDC-provided formats and requirements.\nContribute to reports, slides, dashboards, and other analytical products for CDC and response partners, working with senior epidemiologists and analysts as appropriate.\nSupport the development, testing, and validation of syndrome definitions and surveillance categories, incorporating feedback from CDC subject-matter experts and STLT public health partners.\nSupport analysis and reporting of emergency department data and additional public health data sources, such as NNDSS, commercial laboratory, Veteran’s Affairs, and other data sources, as they are incorporated into surveillance activities.\nTake ownership of assigned analytical work, manage multiple priorities and short timelines, and communicate questions, issues, or risks as they arise.\nBasic Qualifications\nBachelor's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Data Science, Informatics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field and 2-4 years of relevant professional experience in public health, epidemiology, healthcare data analysis, surveillance, or a related analytical field.\n3+ years experience with either public health or syndromic surveillance, including ESSENCE or comparable surveillance systems; or 3+ years experience with analytical programming and data analysis using R, or comparable tools.\nExperience analyzing public health, epidemiologic, healthcare, or other complex datasets.\nAbility to take ownership of assigned work, manage competing priorities, and communicate questions or issues as they arise.\nUnderstanding of basic epidemiologic and statistical concepts.\nExperience cleaning, transforming, validating, analyzing, or visualizing data.\nStrong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and documentation skills.\nAbility to communicate analytical findings clearly to technical and nontechnical audiences.\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience with syndromic surveillance and/or ESSENCE.\nExperience using R or other analytical programming tools for public health or epidemiologic analysis.\nExperience working with state, local, tribal, or territorial (STLT) public health agencies or their surveillance data, systems, or reporting activities.\nMaster's degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Biostatistics, Data Science, Informatics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.\nFamiliarity with healthcare and public health data standards or terminology, such as HL7, ICD-9/10, SNOMED, or LOINC.\nWorking at ICF\nICF is a global advisory and technology services provider, but we’re not your typical consultants.
