Unlike a hospital laboratory, our work is not focused on diagnosing or treating individual patients. Instead, we are the analytical backbone of global drug development: every specimen we process, every result we report, and every QC decision we make contributes directly to the safety monitoring of clinical trial subjects, as well as the pharmacokinetic, biomarker, and efficacy data that will one day reach regulatory agencies like the FDA.\nWe are seeking an experienced laboratory supervisor to lead our Hematology section in Farmingdale, NY - a high-volume, multi-disciplinary department encompassing automated hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, and hemoglobin A1c testing. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone with deep technical proficiency across hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, and HbA1c testing - and the maturity to lead, develop, and the ability to lead and bring out the best in a team.\nSupervisor, Hematology Laboratory\nICON plc | Farmingdale, NY | Full-Time\nDepartment: Clinical Laboratory - Hematology, Urinalysis, Coagulation & HbA1c\nWhat You Will Do\nYou will oversee daily operations across four testing disciplines within our Hematology department, including Hematology, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Hemoglobin A1c testing.\nKey supervisory responsibilities include:\nSupervising day-to-day laboratory operations across hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, and HbA1c testing, ensuring accurate and timely processing of clinical trial specimens\nManaging, mentoring, and developing laboratory staff, including training on instrumentation, SOPs, and quality standards\nMaintaining compliance with CLIA, CAP, NYS, and sponsor-specific requirements across all testing areas\nOverseeing quality control performance, instrument maintenance schedules, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting on Sysmex, Novus, Stago, and Trinity Biotech platforms\nReviewing and approving QC data, ensuring out-of-control events are properly investigated and documented\nCollaborating with cross-functional teams to resolve specimen-related issues and support clinical trial deliverables\nContributing to SOP authorship, review cycles, and appendix maintenance for supervised testing areas\nSupporting proficiency testing, external quality assurance, bi-monthly studies, and regulatory inspection readiness\nTracking and reporting section-level turnaround time (TAT) performance, flagging exceptions, and implementing corrective actions\nParticipating in cross-site harmonization initiatives\nWorking at a CRO vs. a Hospital Lab\nIf you’ve built your career in a hospital, you’ll feel at home in our laboratory - and find the broader scope genuinely energizing.\nWhat’s Familiar\nThe instrumentation and technical discipline will be immediately recognizable:\nSysmex and hematology analyzers for CBC and differential - the same platforms in clinical labs nationwide\nStago coagulation platforms for PT, aPTT, and fibrinogen testing\nTrinity Biotech Premier Hb9210 for NGSP-certified HbA1c\nNovus Urinalysis with automated chemistry and microscopy review\nRigorous QC practices, SOP-driven workflows, and regulatory compliance expectations (CLIA, CAP, NYS)\nWhat’s Different\nThe context and mission shift in meaningful ways:\nYou are not reporting results to physicians for immediate clinical decisions - you are generating high-integrity data that feeds into clinical trial databases and regulatory submissions\nInstead of collaborating with nurses, residents, and caregivers, your cross-functional partners include program managers, Global QC, Specimen Management, Harmonization, Data Integrity, and Scientific Affairs teams\nSpecimens arrive from clinical trial sites around the world with strict chain-of-custody and protocol-specific handling requirements - traceability and documentation are paramount\nYou will work within a globally harmonized laboratory network, aligning your section’s operations with ICON’s labs in Dublin, Singapore, and Beijing\nCareer growth extends beyond the laboratory - paths into global QC, validations, scientific affairs, and other senior roles are accessible from this position.\nYour Profile\nRequired qualifications:\nNew York State license as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (Clinical Laboratory Technologist) required\nMLS(ASCP) or equivalent national certification preferred\nBachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or related scientific discipline\nMinimum 3-5 years of clinical laboratory experience with direct supervisory or lead responsibility\nHands-on experience with hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, and/or HbA1c testing strongly preferred\nWorking knowledge of CLIA, CAP, and NYS laboratory regulatory requirements\nStrong organizational skills with the ability to manage staff, workload, and priorities simultaneously\nExcellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across functional teams\nExperience in a CRO, clinical trials, or pharmaceutical laboratory environment a plus\nSalary Range- This is for Farmingdale NY location only\n$103,790 to $124,548\nEmployment with ICON is contingent upon having the legal right to work in the country where the role is based.\nRewards & Benefits\nICON offers a competitive and comprehensive total rewards package designed to support your health, wellbeing, and career development.\nBenefits may include:\nCompetitive base salary and performance related incentives\nHealth and wellbeing programmes including medical, dental, and vision coverage where applicable\nRetirement and pension plans\nLife assurance and disability coverage\nEmployee assistance programmes and wellbeing resources\nLearning and development opportunities through structured training and career pathways\nBenefits may vary depending on role and location.\nVisit our careers site to read more about the benefits ICON offers.\nInclusion and Accessibility\nICON is an equal opportunity employer.
