In this role, you'll support hands-on development and technical design work for well-designed, maintainable systems, working alongside senior engineers on the team. Based at ICON's Austin, TX office.\nRESPONSIBILITIES:\nSupport the design, integration, and lifecycle management of systems under the guidance of senior engineers.\nHelp ensure all aspects of a product are considered and integrated effectively to meet specified requirements.\nDevelop and refine requirements to ensure they are measurable and traceable; log validation tests, analyses, demonstrations, and inspections into the RTM.\nContribute to system architecture that meets requirements, with review from senior team members.\nHelp ensure subsystems and components integrate to meet operational and functional needs.\nUse modeling and simulation tools as needed to analyze system behavior.\nHelp identify integration risks and collaborate cross-functionally on mitigation.\nSupport development of validation procedures and methods for verifying system requirements are met.\nApply electrical, mechanical, and control system design principles to robotic platforms for construction applications (motion platforms, robotic manipulators, remote sensing, object manipulation).\nDesign, assemble, and test prototypes; help specify instrumentation for R&D projects.\nProvide hands-on troubleshooting, process, and manufacturing support in a fast-paced, AGILE environment.\nCreate design solutions for prototype equipment with good documentation practices, including CAD design in SolidWorks / SolidWorks Electrical Schematic.\nBe willing to move between office and field work as needed, and to contribute to the broader product development process.\nAssist in assembly of robotic systems for on- and off-planet applications.\nAssist in facility upgrades and equipment installation configuration.\nAssist in development and maintenance of autonomous robotic systems in harsh outdoor environments.\nSet individual goals consistent with team and company OKRs.\nAssist in productization documentation and support of cross-functional product deployment to the field.\nMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:\nB.S. degree in Systems Engineering, Physics, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering,\nElectrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a relevant science, with 3+ years of experience, or a Master's degree with 1+ years of equivalent experience, or proven experience in a similar role.\nAbility to rapidly prototype designs in hardware and software, and support transition to DFM and productization on fast timelines.\nTrack record of contributing to an engineering development team and meeting milestones.\nAbility to apply first-principles thinking to solve problems.\nExposure to design of industrial equipment/machinery, industrial or mobile robotics, and an understanding of field requirements for such machines.\nFamiliarity with electrical power distribution, cable harnesses, and electrical panel design for industrial machinery.\nExperience using electrical schematic generation and management software.\nAdept at communicating in a collaborative team environment and seeking optimal solutions with teammates.\nFamiliarity with AGILE project management methodology.\nA service-oriented attitude in a support role.\nAbility to prioritize and stay level-headed in a dynamic startup environment.\nStrong verbal and written communication skills.\nPREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:\n3+ years of experience designing/building industrial automation equipment or related field.\nStartup experience, and/or a resourceful, innovative nature with an ability to improveprocesses.\n\nAbility to read electrical schematics and troubleshoot electrical/mechanical systems.\nExposure to industrial safety systems.\nStrong communication skills, including explaining technical concepts to non-technical audiences.\nA hunger for learning and growth.\nFamiliarity with integrated or autonomous robotic systems.\nPHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:\nMust be able to lift 50 pounds.\nMust be prepared to work, in part, in extreme environments: temps >100°F or below freezing, sun, rain, mud, lack of electricity, etc.\nMust be able to travel 4+ weeks per year internationally.\nICON is an equal opportunity employer committed to fostering an innovative, inclusive, diverse and discrimination-free work environment.
