While this position is based at Idaho Power’s downtown Boise location, we offer both flexible schedules and the opportunity to work up to 40% remote.\nWhat does a Senior Data Engineer do for us?\nThey design, develop, and support complex enterprise data solutions that enable trusted analytics, operational decision-making, and emerging artificial intelligence capabilities. Leads technical delivery for assigned projects, builds scalable pipelines, integration frameworks, data products, analytical datasets, and semantic models, and partners with business and technology stakeholders to translate processes into secure, reliable, reusable, governed information assets. Provides technical guidance while contributing to architecture decisions, platform modernization, and engineering improvements.\nIn addition to the meaningful work we do, we offer work-life balance, competitive pay and benefits, an employee incentive plan, and both a 401k employer-match and a pension plan, making Idaho Power one of the best employers in the state.\nA COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE\nKnowledge of:\nEnterprise data architecture, integration patterns, and modern cloud data platform design\nETL/ELT and data-processing technologies\nMedallion, Lakehouse, and Warehouse architecture patterns\nRelational and distributed data systems\nDimensional modeling and semantic model design\nData governance, metadata, lineage, quality, and stewardship\nSoftware development lifecycle practices including Agile, source control, automated testing, and CI/CD\nPreferred:\nUtility industry processes and data domains\nSkills in:\nAdvanced SQL and Python development, including query and workload performance optimization\nDesigning enterprise data pipelines, integration frameworks, analytical datasets, semantic models, and reusable data products\nRoot cause analysis and resolution of complex data, performance, and production issues\nAzure DevOps, Git, automated testing, deployment automation, and CI/CD\nTranslating complex requirements into technical designs and recommendations\nTechnical leadership, stakeholder collaboration, and mentoring\nPreferred:\nHands-on use of Microsoft Synapse, Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Power BI, or comparable enterprise data and analytics technologies\nAbility to:\nLead technical delivery of complex enterprise data solutions within assigned projects\nTranslate business processes into scalable, secure, reliable, and maintainable solutions\nApply architecture patterns and engineering standards while contributing to design and architecture decisions\nEvaluate alternatives, resolve complex issues, and identify improvements\nCommunicate complex concepts and build alignment across technical and non-technical stakeholders\nMentor peers and guide project-level technical execution\nManage multiple priorities while working independently and collaboratively\nPreferred:\nApply knowledge of utility processes and data domains to complex enterprise data solutions\nMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS\nEducation:\nBachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, data science, engineering, or a related field\nOR\nAn equivalent combination of education and experience\nExperience:\n5 years of experience in data engineering, business intelligence, cloud data platforms, data architecture, database development, or a related discipline\nPreferred:\nExperience with utility industry processes or data domains\nPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS\nThis position requires working at a desk/computer for extended periods of time. It requires the use of office equipment, fine motor skills including typing on the computer, dialing phones, filing paper, and working in close proximity to other people.
