We're looking for a Lead Database Engineer to lead Database Engineering Squad 2, driving database architecture, performance, reliability, and modernization across our SQL Server and PostgreSQL estate.As a hands-on technical leader, you will define the technical direction for the squad while actively contributing to complex database engineering challenges. You'll work closely with engineers, architects, and product teams to ensure our databases remain scalable, secure, and resilient as our product portfolio continues to grow.Responsibilities\nLead the technical direction and delivery of Database Engineering Squad 2.\nDesign and optimize database architectures across SQL Server and PostgreSQL environments.\nDrive database performance tuning, scalability improvements, and modernization initiatives.\nEstablish standards for database design, migrations, security, backup, and recovery.\nLead complex schema changes, cloud migrations, and high-availability solutions.\nPartner with engineering teams to solve performance and reliability challenges at the right layer.\nMentor and coach Database Engineers, fostering technical excellence and AI-assisted engineering practices.\nContribute to major incident management, root cause analysis, and long-term remediation.\nChampion automation, Infrastructure as Code, database CI/CD, and operational best practices.\nSkills and Experience\nExtensive database engineering experience, including architecture, performance tuning, and operational excellence at scale.\nStrong expertise in PostgreSQL and SQL Server.\nExperience with cloud database platforms such as AWS RDS, Aurora, Azure SQL, or Managed Instance.\nProven track record leading technical direction while remaining hands-on.\nExperience with automation, CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, and modern Git workflows.\nStrong communication, mentoring, and stakeholder management skills.\nAbout Ideagen\nIdeagen is the invisible force behind many things we rely on every day - from keeping airplanes soaring in the sky, to ensuring the food on our tables is safe, to helping doctors and nurses care for the sick.
