This role provides leadership to Production Leads and Operators, manages staffing and performance, drives continuous improvement, and serves as the primary decision maker for all shift-level operational, quality, and personnel matters. The Supervisor ensures adherence to SOPs, contamination-control practices, and production schedules while fostering a culture of accountability, engagement, and operational excellence.\nEssential Duties & Responsibilities\n1. Operations Leadership & Decision-Making\nDevelop the daily production plan based on schedule requirements, labor availability, equipment capacity, and material readiness.\nMake decisions related to workflow adjustments, resource allocation, priority changes, and operational troubleshooting.\nDirect and oversee Production Leads to ensure assignments, work execution, and operator deployment support productivity and throughput goals.\nMonitor real-time performance (safety, quality, delivery, cost) and take corrective action when results deviate from expectations.\nApprove overtime, scheduling adjustments, and additional staffing needs for the shift.\nCoordinate with Planning, Quality, Engineering, and Maintenance to manage material flow, equipment issues, and schedule risks.\nEnsure effective shift-to-shift communication by leading structured handovers that address production status, WIP, quality concerns, staffing, and equipment conditions.\nVerify product quality by ensuring proper completion of batch records, in-process verifications, clean-room documentation, and adherence to specifications.\nMaintain departmental reporting and documentation related to production metrics, safety observations, downtime, and improvement activities.\n2. Leadership, People Management & Staff Development\nLead, coach, and develop Production Leads and Operators, building skillsets that support company growth and operational capability.\nConduct performance evaluations, deliver coaching, initiate corrective action, and manage employee relations issues in alignment with HR and company policy.\nInterview, select, and hire new operators and leads in partnership with HR and the Production Manager.\nMonitor attendance, approve timekeeping, and manage overtime levels to support labor efficiency and budget adherence.\nSet clear expectations for individual and team performance and provide timely, constructive feedback.\nBuild a positive, safe, and engaged work culture that emphasizes teamwork, accountability, and professional growth.\n3. Safety & Compliance\nServe as the final decision maker for any safety-related work stoppages, ensuring conditions are safe before production resumes.\nEnforce all safety policies, including PPE use, machine guarding, ergonomic practices, incident reporting, and clean-room requirements.\nConduct safety walks, participate in safety investigations, and drive corrective actions for unsafe behaviors or conditions.\nEnsure compliance with clean-room gowning protocols, contamination-control practices, and documentation standards.\n4. Quality Assurance & Regulatory Compliance\nEnsure team adherence to SOPs, work instructions, ISO requirements, and clean-room standards.\nApprove rework decisions, quality-related escalations, and corrective/preventive actions originating from the shift.\nDrive accountability for accurate documentation, including batch records, travelers, equipment logs, and quality checks.\nPartner with Quality to address deviations, non-conformances, and customer-related issues.\n5. Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence\nLead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and similar methodologies.\nUse data and KPI trends to identify opportunities for productivity improvements, waste reduction, and process optimization.\nFacilitate root-cause investigations and ensure implementation of corrective and preventive actions.\nApprove changes to workflow, standard work, cell layout, or production methods within the department.\nDecision-Making Authority\nThe Production Supervisor has final authority for:\nOperational Decisions\nProduction scheduling adjustments\nWorkflow changes and staffing allocations\nApproving overtime and additional shift labor\nRestarting operations following safety or quality stoppages\nQuality & Compliance Decisions\nAcceptance of rework activities\nApproval of corrective/preventive action (CAPA) actions at the shift level\nDocumentation escalations and quality-related communication\nPeople & Staffing Decisions\nHiring, promotion, corrective action, and separation recommendations\nPerformance evaluations and advancement decisions\nTraining and certification approvals\nQualifications\nEducation & Experience\n5+ years manufacturing experience (machining, clean-room production, assembly, or quality).\nPrevious supervisory experience required; clean-room or semiconductor experience strongly preferred.\nBachelor’s Degree preferred; equivalent technical or supervisory experience accepted.\nSkills & Competencies\nStrong leadership capabilities with demonstrated decision-making and problem-solving skills.\nExperience with Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, or structured process-improvement tools.\nAbility to analyze data, interpret operational metrics, and use information for decision-making.\nExcellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to influence across shifts and departments.\nHighly organized, able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.\nStrong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.\nComputer Skills\nProficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).\nAbility to maintain and report KPIs, create performance dashboards, and support presentation of operational data.\nWorking Environment & Physical Requirements\nFrequent work inside a temperature-controlled clean-room environment following strict gowning and contamination-control procedures.\nExposure to production equipment and repetitive motion tasks.\nRequires standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs as needed.\nAre you ready to join a different kind of company where our people, our culture, and our commitments are centered around providing trusted solutions that improve lives around the world?\nIDEX is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
