This role provides strategic leadership across the assigned commodity portfolio, including supplier selection, negotiation, performance management, risk mitigation, and supply base optimization. The Senior Commodity Manager partners closely with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Finance, and Leadership to deliver year-over-year material productivity, support new product introductions, reduce complexity, improve supplier performance, and strengthen overall supply chain resilience.\nESSENTIAL DUTIES\nStrategic Sourcing & Supplier Management\nDevelop and execute global commodity strategies that achieve annual operating plan targets for cost, quality, delivery, inventory, and supply continuity.\nIdentify, evaluate, qualify, and develop suppliers to improve cost competitiveness, innovation, quality, supply chain resilience, and long term business growth.\nLeverage platform spend to lead supplier negotiations, establish commercial agreements, and secure the best total cost of ownership across assigned global commodities.\nApply an 80/20 mindset to simplify the supply base, reduce product and supplier complexity, and improve sourcing effectiveness across the platform.\nLead supplier development and continuous improvement initiatives with internal stakeholders to deliver measurable operational and financial results.\nManage supplier performance through scorecards, executive business reviews, and corrective action plans focused on quality, delivery, cost, responsiveness, and capacity. Escalate critical issues when needed to protect business continuity and platform performance.\nCost Management & Risk Mitigation\nAnalyze market conditions, cost drivers, and supplier economics to identify and deliver sustainable cost reduction and overall value opportunities.\nProactively assess and mitigate supply chain risks, including capacity constraints, sole-source exposure, geopolitical factors, logistics challenges, and supplier financial health and regional sourcing risks.\nLead value engineering, resourcing, and productivity initiatives across the pneumatics platform to improve margin, reduce complexity and support long-term growth.\nCross-Functional Collaboration & Leadership\nPartner with engineering and product development teams to align sourcing strategies with product roadmaps, technology changes, and growth priorities.\nSupport new product introductions by ensuring supplier readiness, qualification, capacity, and risk management plans are in place.\nWork closely with quality, operations, engineering and finance to resolve supplier issues, improve performance, and drive corrective actions that protect business continuity.\nLead and develop sourcing specialists to ensure alignment with platform sourcing strategies, priorities, and performance expectations.\nEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS OR EQUIVALENCIES\nBachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business, or a related discipline.\n7-10 years of experience in sourcing, commodity management, or supply chain leadership within a manufacturing environment.\nProven experience leading complex supplier negotiations, developing commercial agreements, and applying should-cost or cost modeling tools.\nExperience in commodities such as iron and aluminum castings, metal fabrication, machining, or other industrial components used in pneumatic products is preferred.\nExperience managing a global supply base, including supplier performance, capacity, and risk mitigation across regions.\nLean manufacturing, continuous improvement, or supplier development experience is a plus.\nDemonstrated project management skills with the ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and drive results.\nStrong analytical, financial, Excel, ERP systems, and communication skills are required.\nPHYSICAL/MENTAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS\nAbility to manage multiple priorities with agility in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, solving problems quickly, and making sound decisions that balance risk, and business performance\nPromotes a growth-focused culture by challenging the status quo, embracing continuous improvement, and using 80/20 thinking to unlock speed, focus, and performance.\nDemonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment while thinking independently, showing initiative, anticipating issues, and driving practical solutions.\nStrong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills are required, along with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and suppliers at multiple levels of the organization.\nLeads with trust, team, and excellence by demonstrating accountability, integrity, sound judgment, and respect in interactions with colleagues, customers, and suppliers.\nDeliver results, not just updates, and hold self and others accountable for execution, follow-through, and business outcomes.\nAbility to travel approximately 20-30% domestically and internationally between business units and supplier locations as required.\nThe intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the essential duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents of this job.
