You’ll have the opportunity to shape how the next generation of intelligent, highly automated production equipment is designed and deployed - work that has a visible, lasting impact on the plant floor.\nIn This Role\nYou’ll lead automation controls engineering efforts across production lines and equipment.\n\nYou’ll design, program, test, and optimize PLC- and HMI-based control systems.\n\nYou’ll support machine automation technologies, including motion control, machine vision, industrial robotics, sensors, safety systems, and related control devices.\n\nYou’ll develop control strategies to improve cycle time, reliability, quality, and throughput.\n\nYou’ll write, debug, and implement PLC and HMI applications, primarily in Rockwell Studio 5000 and FactoryTalk platforms.\n\nYour day-to-day will include developing automation logic, control sequences, interlocks, alarms, and user interfaces.\n\nYou’ll integrate automation equipment with plant-floor systems, including sensors, robots, instrumentation, and data acquisition devices.\n\nYou’ll partner with equipment suppliers, manufacturing engineering, and operations to implement new equipment and upgrades.\n\nYou’ll design control system architectures, control panels, communication networks, and industrial device connectivity.\n\nYou’ll support OT cybersecurity best practices within automation controls environments.\n\nYou’ll lead troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and support of control systems in live production environments.\n\nYou’ll drive continuous improvement initiatives tied to equipment performance, uptime, and automation maturity.\n\nWhat You Need to Succeed\nBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline-or equivalent experience.\n\n7+ years of hands-on controls engineering experience, including PLC programming, HMI development, and industrial automation support.\n\nStrong proficiency with Allen-Bradley PLCs and Rockwell Automation software.\n\nSolid understanding of industrial control networks and communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, OPC, Modbus, TCP/IP, etc.).\n\nExperience integrating automation hardware (sensors, actuators, motion control, robotics, drives, etc.).\n\nStrong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a proven ability to resolve complex automation issues.\n\nExperience driving projects independently with strong communication and organizational skills.\n\nAbility to travel up to 5%.\n\nPreferred:\nExperience with machine vision, robotics, and advanced motion control systems.\n\nKnowledge of SQL databases, data collection, and basic data integration.\n\nFamiliarity with Python or scripting for automation support tasks.\n\nUnderstanding of MES/ERP connectivity or plant-floor data systems (not required but beneficial).\n\nExposure to Industry 4.0 concepts, edge devices, or IIoT connectivity.\n\nExperience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) or modern data tools (Power BI, Tableau) is a plus.\n\nUnderstanding of ISA standards such as ISA-95 or ISA/IEC 62443 (cybersecurity).\n\nWhat You Can Expect From Us\n$140, 000 - $145, 000 / year, depending on skills and experience.\n\nOpportunity for annual cash bonus and merit pay increase consideration\n\nHealth / Dental / Vision benefits from day one\n\n5% matching 401k\n\nPaid Time Off\n\nAdditional benefits including but not limited to financial support, pet insurance, mental health resources, volunteer paid days off, employee stock program, foundation donation matching, and mor\n\nThe opportunity to do meaningful work where you positively impact the lives of people and pets all over the world\n\nWhy IDEXX:\nWe’re proud of the work we do, because our work matters.
