Whether you’re an experienced professional or just starting out, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute, grow, and make a lasting impact on industries that power the world’s most dynamic markets.\nLocation: San Antonio, TX\nReports To: VP of Design Engineering\nPosition Summary:\nThe Skidding/E-House Engineering Manager leads the structural engineering discipline supporting the design and fabrication of skid-mounted equipment packages and electrical houses (E-Houses). This role is the primary technical authority for IBC code compliance, state licensing, state certifications/inspections, PE stamping, and lift calculations, and manages a team of engineers to ensure all skid and E-House structural designs are safe, code-compliant, and delivered on schedule. This position reports directly to the VP of Engineering.\nKey Responsibilities:\nServe as the primary technical authority on International Building Code (IBC) compliance for all skid-mounted equipment packages and electrical house (E-House) structural designs.\nReview, approve, and PE-stamp structural calculations, drawings, and specifications for skids and E-Houses in accordance with applicable codes and state requirements.\nPerform and oversee lift calculations and rigging plans to ensure the safe lifting, transport, and installation of skids and E-Houses.\nManage state professional licensing for the engineering group, ensuring the team holds and maintains the licenses required in every state where projects are executed.\nCoordinate state certifications, inspections, and permitting activities for skid and E-House projects, acting as the primary liaison with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) and third-party inspectors.\nLead, mentor, and develop a team of structural and design engineers supporting skidding and E-House programs.\nPartner with the VP of Engineering to establish structural engineering standards, design practices, and quality control processes for skids and E-Houses.\nReview project scopes and customer specifications early in the proposal and design phases to identify structural, code, and licensing requirements.\nCollaborate with project management, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure structural designs are manufacturable, code-compliant, and delivered on schedule.\nEvaluate site-specific loading conditions (seismic, wind, snow, transportation) and ensure designs are engineered accordingly.\nSupport proposal and estimating efforts with structural engineering scope reviews, risk assessments, and man-hour estimates.\nStay current on changes to the IBC, state building codes, and state licensing/certification requirements, and update internal engineering standards accordingly.\nLead root cause investigations and corrective actions for structural or code-compliance issues identified during design, fabrication, or in the field.\nCompetencies:\nIn-depth knowledge of the International Building Code (IBC) and applicable state/local building codes as they apply to the structural design of skids and E-Houses.\nActive Professional Engineer (PE) license, with demonstrated ability to stamp structural calculations and drawings.\nWorking knowledge of state licensing, certification, and inspection processes for structural equipment and prefabricated structures.\nProficiency in performing and reviewing lift calculations and rigging/transportation plans.\nStrong background in structural analysis and design, including relevant structural design software.\nLeadership and people-management skills, with the ability to build, mentor, and develop an engineering team.\nTask management and the ability to carry a plan to completion across a number of concurrent projects.\nExcellent written and oral communication skills.\nAbility to interact directly with customers, sales, inspectors, other technical resources, and management.\nTechnical writing skills.\nOrganization skills.\nExcellent working knowledge of MS Office Suites (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, etc.).\nPride in workmanship.\nManages multiple tasks and deadlines with minimal supervision; demonstrates consistent prioritization and planning.\nAttention to detail and thoroughness.\nQualifications:\nBachelor’s degree in Structural, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.\n15+ years of structural engineering experience within the skidding/E-House industry.\nActive Professional Engineer (PE) license required; ability to obtain licensure/reciprocity in additional states as needed.\nDemonstrated experience with IBC compliance, state licensing, state certifications/inspections, PE stamping, and lift calculations.\nPrior experience managing or leading an engineering team preferred.\nExperience working directly with customers, third-party inspectors, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) preferred.\nWhy Join IEM\nAt IEM, you’ll join a team that powers some of the world’s most ambitious projects.
