IENAI SPACE is a Madrid space technology company founded in 2017 and specialised in electric propulsion for small satellites. Its ATHENA thrusters and mission design software let operators tailor propulsion to each orbit. The company supplies satellite manufacturers across Europe and North America.

How will you contribute to IENAI SPACE?

As Mission Analyst, you will contribute to the technical development of mission design, flight dynamics and software solutions supporting space missions, as well as to customer-facing activities around our software products.

This role combines solid hands-on experience in mission analysis with good software development skills and a collaborative mindset, delivering high-quality engineering work within a multidisciplinary team.

Reporting to the Mission Analysis Tech Lead, you will participate in mission analysis studies, contribute to the development and validation of advanced software tools, and support customers in making the most of our solutions.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Perform mission analysis tasks including trajectory design, propulsion sizing, spacecraft maneuver planning, and feasibility assessments, as part of internal projects and consulting contracts with industry stakeholders.
  • Develop, test and validate software models and simulations for mission analysis and flight dynamics, ensuring accuracy and consistency with engineering requirements - with a particular focus on Python-based implementations and API integrations within the 360™ ecosystem.
  • Contribute to the development of advanced software solutions, including the 360™ tool's core library and RESTful API layer, with a focus on meeting customer needs and maintaining high standards of quality, testing and documentation.
  • Support customers in the use of company tools and solutions, providing technical guidance under the supervision of the Tech Lead.
  • Work closely with engineering, operations and system design teams to help ensure mission requirements are met.

What is your department like?

You will be part of our Mission Analysis and Operations department, which is in charge of the development of our 360™ tool, both in terms of software development and providing mission analysis services.

What will make you succeed?

Technical Requirements

  • Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • Approximately 3 years of hands-on experience combining mission analysis and software development within the space sector, or a strong track record in one with demonstrable exposure to the other.
  • Proficiency in Python is required, including experience with scientific computing libraries (e.g. NumPy, SciPy) and the development or consumption of RESTful APIs. Knowledge of Julia would be a strong asset; familiarity with MATLAB or C++ is also valued.
  • Good understanding of spacecraft modeling and key subsystems, including propulsion, ADCS, power, communications and thermal control.
  • Familiarity with mission analysis and flight dynamics tools or libraries such as GMAT, STK, Orekit, FreeFlyer, or equivalent.
  • Solid understanding of software engineering practices, including object-oriented programming, test-driven development and version control. Experience with GitHub for version control and collaborative development is expected; familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, cloud environments (e.g. Docker, AWS), or UX/UI workflows is a plus.
  • Solid grounding in orbital and attitude mechanics, optimization, and spacecraft operations. Experience with spacecraft maneuvering is valued.
  • Some exposure to technical proposals or space standards is an asset.
  • Spoken and written professional proficiency in English.

Soft Skills

  • Ability to manage assigned tasks with autonomy while knowing when to escalate or seek guidance.
  • Collaborative and proactive attitude, with a genuine interest in contributing to a technical team that spans engineering and software disciplines.
  • Good communication skills, able to interact clearly with peers and, when needed, with customers.
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment, comfortable navigating between engineering analysis and software development contexts.

What do we offer?

  • A key role in a pioneering space startup, where you will directly impact the development of cutting-edge propulsion technology.
  • A full-time contract of 40h per week.
  • Flexible working hours, allowing you to manage your schedule for better work-life balance.
  • Hybrid work model - work remotely up to 10days per month.
  • Extra holidays - in addition to 23 vacation days, enjoy 6 additional days off during the Christmas period (from 24 December to 2 January, both included).
  • Private health insurance, fully covered by the company.
  • Learning & Development - €1000 per year budget for training, courses, and professional growth.
  • Autonomy and responsibility - your contributions will directly shape our technology and success.

What will your recruitment process be like?

Here is a quick overview of the recruitment process:

  • Application review: we carefully assess your CV and experience.
  • Culture and values interview: a chat with our People team to ensure we share the same mindset and values.
  • Technical interview: meet the team and showcase your technical skills.
  • Sometimes the hiring process will require a technical exercise to assess how you could apply logic and structure to different scenarios.
  • Final interview with Founders: align expectations and discuss your potential impact at IENAI SPACE.
