This position will involve designing and developing software systems and tools as part of a team. Focus will be on developing embedded software to power our Merlin blood-testing product and future product versions, adhering to medical device standards for software quality. The instrument also interfaces with a cloud-hosted platform for data management and test coordination, so experience with device-to-cloud interfaces will be valuable.\nESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES\nThese may include but are not limited to:\nDeveloping software components and participating in integration of software components\n\nDeveloping software tools to facilitate software test and integration activities\n\nDeveloping and executing software test protocols and generating test reports\n\nTroubleshooting issues related to system functionality and performance\n\nContributing to cross-functional teams\n\nMentoring more junior engineers\n\nTECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE\nFamiliarity with embedded software system design and concepts\n\nExperience with one or more programming languages such as C/C++/C#/Python, especially .NET\n\nExperience with build systems, unit testing and general best practices in SW development\n\nProficient knowledge of networking and familiarity with Unix and Windows operating systems\n\nCompetent in use of requirements management and issue tracking systems like Jira/Confluence\n\nExperience with low-level controllers and software interfaces to physical components like motors, robots, and sensors\n\nEDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES\nBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar field\n\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills\n\nExcellent communication and teamwork abilities\n\nAbility to author and present technical documents\n\nFamiliarity with Agile, Scrum, and Waterfall methodologies\n\nExperience in life sciences industry and medical device development is a strong preference\n\nDemonstrated ability to work productively in a team environment\n\nPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT\nThis is a primarily office-based role in San Diego, CA. On-site work is required most days because of the necessary access to physical instruments for development, testing, and troubleshooting. Instruments may be located in hardware or wet lab environments that require personal protective equipment and adherence to related protocols.\nTRAVEL REQUIREMENTS\nTravel to customer or partner sites could occur, but is not a normal part of this role and would be rare (\nCOMPENSATION\nThe base salary range for this role is $107,000 - $125,000 per year. Individual pay may vary based on job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
