Benson Research and Demonstration Farm. This position is responsible for training producers on proper facility use for processing poultry, fish, rabbits, and other species as needed. The Coordinator maintains compliance records for USDA, FDA, and Kentucky Health Services and must hold certification in food handling and chemical application.\nESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:\nMaintain the daily operations of the KSU Poultry Processing Building at Harold R. Benson Research and Demonstration Farm and assist with the Mobile Processing Unit.\nTrain producers on the use of the facilities for processing poultry, fish, and rabbits.\nMaintain up to date records on the processing activities for USDA, FDA, and Kentucky Health Services.\nMaintain required certifications in food handling and chemical application.\nAssist with the maintenance of facilities and equipment used in the program.\nWork with stakeholders on Extension related questions through answering emails, phone calls, and letters, as well as occasional site visits to grower’s sites.\nAssist with general care and maintenance of poultry at the Harold R. Benson Research and\nDemonstration Farm and assist with poultry related research projects when needed.\nPerform other related duties as assigned.\nParticipate in Extension program meetings, trainings, and community engagement as requested.\nKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:\nKnowledge of food safety and processing regulations.\nAbility to obtain and maintain certification in food handling, processing techniques, and chemical application\nBasic livestock care procedures.\nEffective communication skills (oral and written).\nMust be able to lift 50 lbs.\nExperience with animal processing preferred.\nAbility to obtain food managers certification.\nComputer literacy.\nAbility to work cooperatively in a team effort is required.\nInitiative, resourcefulness, punctuality, and ability to work independently are essential.\nSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:\nThis position does not have supervisory responsibility. May provide functional guidance to producers, students or volunteers using the facility.\nOTHER DUTIES:\nOther duties as assigned\nQUALIFICATIONS:\nRequired:\nBachelor of Science in Food Science, Animal Sciences, or related field.\nA minimum of 5 years of poultry processing experience may substitute for the education requirement.\nLicensing and Certifications:\nCertification in food handling and chemical application required; ability to obtain food manager’s certification within one year.\nWORKING CONDITIONS:\nWork performed outdoors in varying and sometimes adverse weather conditions.\nExposure to extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, odors, and/or loud noises.\nRequires strenuous physical activity including heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects over 50 pounds.\nWork environment may involve exposure to hazards or physical risks; adherence to safety precautions is required.\n\nApplicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States.
