The team combines support and engineering skills and is responsible for a secure, productive, modern workplace experience for colleagues across the Group.\nYou will report to the Principal Engineer -Workplace Technology The role has no direct reports, but you will lead projects technically and mentor junior engineers. You will work day to day with Information Security, Network and Infrastructure Services, the Service Desk, application owners and engineering teams, Compliance and Audit, and our suppliers.\n\nYour role:\nThis role exists to engineer the platforms that shape how IG’s people work, from the Windows Server estate running our back-office IT, Azure Infrastructure-as-a-Service, Azure Virtual Desktop, Microsoft 365 and Entra ID. You will design and automate secure, resilient services as part of the estate moves from on-premises to Azure, while keeping what stays on premises dependable for the medium and long term. You will be a senior technical voice in a capable team, raising engineering standards and developing the engineers around you.\nWhat you'll do:\nKey Responsibilities\nProvide senior engineering, design, implementation and operational support across IG's Microsoft platform estate, encompassing on-premises, hybrid and cloud services. \nOwn the technical roadmap and lifecycle management of Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, Exchange Online, SQL Server, Windows Server, Intune and associated workplace technologies. \nDesign, implement and support Azure infrastructure services, ensuring alignment to the Cloud Adoption Framework: security, governance, resilience and operational standards. \nLead the design, deployment and ongoing operation of Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) services, including host pools, session hosts, image management, FSLogix and user experience optimisation for a globally distributed user-base. \nEngineer and manage enterprise identity and access management solutions, including Active Directory, Entra ID, Conditional Access, MFA, Privileged Identity Management and Single Sign-On. \nSupport and modernise core Microsoft infrastructure services including Active Directory, Group Policy, PKI and Exchange hybrid environments. \nDrive adoption of cloud-native and modern workplace technologies while managing the transition from legacy platforms. \nDevelop and maintain automation, orchestration and self-service capabilities using PowerShell, Microsoft Graph, Azure Automation and related technologies. \nLead technical investigations, problem management activities and root cause analysis for critical service incidents. \nDefine and maintain monitoring, alerting, operational procedures, recovery processes and service documentation for Microsoft platforms. \nPartner with Cyber Security, Infrastructure, Architecture and Service Management teams to ensure services meet compliance, regulatory and security requirements. \nAct as a senior technical escalation point and provide leadership during major incidents and complex technical challenges. \nMentor engineers, share technical knowledge and promote engineering best practices across Workplace Technology. \nEvaluate emerging Microsoft technologies and provide recommendations to support IG's Workplace Technology strategy and future roadmap. \nWhat you'll need:\nRole Requirements\nEssential\nExtensive experience in a senior Microsoft infrastructure, platform or cloud engineering role. \nExpert knowledge of Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint Online/OneDrive and Intune. \nStrong experience with Microsoft Entra ID, Active Directory and hybrid identity architectures. \nAdvanced knowledge of Windows Server administration and enterprise Microsoft infrastructure services. \nExperience supporting Exchange Online and hybrid Exchange environments, including email security, compliance, retention and journaling. Good understanding of SMTP routing and transport. \nProven experience designing, deploying and supporting Microsoft Azure services within enterprise environments. \nStrong understanding of security and compliance technologies including Conditional Access, MFA, Microsoft Defender and Zero Trust principles. \nAdvanced PowerShell scripting and automation capability. \nExperience with Microsoft Intune, Windows Autopilot and modern endpoint management. \nStrong troubleshooting, incident management and problem-solving skills within business-critical environments from the network layer up. \nExperience delivering complex technical projects, migrations and platform transformation initiatives. \nExperience operating within regulated and security-conscious organisations. \nAbility to produce high-quality technical documentation, architecture designs and operational runbooks. \nExcellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences. \nDesirable Skills & Experience\nExperience implementing or supporting Cloud Adoption Framework, Azure Landing Zone architectures. \nHands-on Azure Virtual Desktop engineering and operational experience. \nExperience with FSLogix profile management and virtual desktop optimisation. \nRemote Desktop Services (or Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops) experience. \nInfrastructure-as-Code experience using Terraform, Bicep or similar technologies. \nExperience with Azure DevOps, GitHub, Gitlab and modern CI/CD practices. \nMicrosoft Graph API development and automation experience. \nExperience with or working knowledge of Microsoft Purview, Information Protection, Data Loss Prevention and Records Management. \nKnowledge of Microsoft Defender XDR, Defender for Cloud Apps and wider Microsoft security tooling. \nExperience with Microsoft 365 backup and recovery solutions. \nExperience supporting large-scale workplace transformation or cloud migration programmes. \nExperience implementing proactive monitoring, synthetic monitoring and service observability solutions. \nExperience supporting Copilot for Microsoft 365, Copilot Studio and AI-enabled workplace technologies. \nMicrosoft certifications such as: \nMicrosoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert \nMicrosoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate \nMicrosoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert \nMicrosoft Certified: Azure Virtual Desktop Specialty \nMicrosoft Certified: Identity and Access Administrator Associate \nStrong understanding of networking principles and services at layer 2 and layer 3 upwards.
