A candidate may have the opportunity for consideration to extend the internship (part-time) into the Semester school year. \nThis Laser Scan Engineer/Technician 1\n(LS-1) position will work both independently and in a team\nwith other technicians with a focus on using appropriate measurement instruments\nto gather as-built data and preparing the data for BIM applications by\nutilizing multiple tools, processes, and technologies. Technician will ensure\nthat the tools and solutions utilized meet the needs of the project, the data\ncollected is of a high quality, and implemented processed are followed\naccording to agreed upon standards. The ideal candidate will have a passion for\nlearning and be able to adapt to changing tasks quickly.\nLaser Scan Engineer/Technician 1 (LS-1)\nPosition Description\nAn LS-1 performs entry-level\nfield and data processing work. An LS-1 is responsible for maintenance and operation\nof measurement data collection equipment, collection of an appropriate amount\nof as-built data as prescribed by the project’s scope, and efficient mobilization\nand de-mobilization to and from temporary field offices and project sites, as\nwell as troubleshooting technical issues and adapting to unexpected conditions encountered\nduring field work. An LS-1 is also responsible for securely handling data between\nfield and office operations, appropriately storing and backing up data, and utilizing\ndata processing and registration software, as well as other BIM software, to\nproduce high quality and accurate point clouds which align to equipment, buildings,\ncampus, and/or state plane coordinates as prescribed by the project’s scope. Additional work may include assisting with building facilities and shop work tasks, including assistance with maintenance and upkeep.\nResponsibilities of the position\ninclude, but are not limited to:\n·Perform\nequipment maintenance as directed by Project Managers, Project Coordinators,\nand Field Team Leads.\n·Prepare\nequipment for mobilization and demobilization to job site.\n·Understand\nproject scope and plans for data collection as communicated by Project\nManagers, Project Coordinators, and Field Team Leads.\n·Read and\nunderstand site and building plans\n·Record\nneat and accurate field notes to communicate field operations and conditions to\nother team members.\n·Operate\nequipment for gathering measurement data in field.\n·Adapt\nquickly to changing field conditions and project requirements.\n·Utilize\nsoftware to process and accurately register data collected in field.\n·Understand\nproject origins and accurately transform point cloud to match project origins.\n·Communicate\nproblems encountered in both field and office with the appropriate Manager or Team\nLeader in a timely manner and suggest potential solutions.\n·Follow\nprocedures for self-check QA/QC during field and office operations at a reasonable\nfrequency.\n·Maintain\nthe motivation to take ownership of tasks and the determination to drive them\nto completion.\nLST-1 will have a functional\nknowledge of laser scanning technology and BIM software. Applications from\ncandidates with no experience using laser scanning technology and/or BIM\nsoftware will be accepted. If the successful candidate does not possess the\nrequired knowledge or experience, the LST-1 will begin with training in usage\nof Laser Scanning Technology and BIM products to provide an understanding of\nthe equipment and software before beginning related laser scanning and data\nprocessing tasks.\nJob\nTypes: Full-Time, Part-Time\nRequirements\nMinimum\nQualifications\nThe successful\ncandidate will have completed one year of experience in field work utilizing\neither total station or laser scanning equipment, and/or one year of experience\nin utilizing BIM software for modeling and/or working with point clouds, or any\nequivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the\nneeded knowledge, skills, and abilities.\nAdditionally,\ncandidate should possess the following skills.\nStronganalytical and problem-solving skills.\n\nExcellent oraland written communication skills with the ability to understand others and\nclearly express thoughts.\n\nAbility toproduce high quality work deliverables with high attention to detail.\n\nAbility toeffectively work in a team environment.\n\nAbility tomanage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, or activities.\n\nExcellentspatial awareness and a firm understanding of basic geometric principles.\n\nDesire to learnabout laser scanning technology and related BIM technologies.\n\nPreferred\nQualifications\nThe preferred\ncandidate will possess the following additional qualifications:\n1-3 years ofexperience operating laser scanners, preferably TRIMBLE scanners.\n\n1-3 years ofexperience in Autodesk Revit.\n\n1-3 years ofexperience in Autodesk Navisworks.\n\nBasic letteringand drafting skills.\n\nBasic knowledgeof laser scan data processing and registration techniques, preferably in TRIMBLE and Autodesk ReCap.\n\nUnderstandingof the BIMForum’s Reality Capture Level of Acceptance (LOA) Specification\n\nUnderstandingof the BIMForum’s Level of Development (LOD) Specification\n\nReceivedCertificate of Development in BIM (CD-BIM) Part 1.\n\nTravel\nThe LS-1 will be\nrequired to travel as needed based on the location of projects and project\nrequirements.
