You will leverage your technical expertise across hardware, software, firmware, and systems troubleshooting to maximize instrument performance and enable innovation.\nWhat You'll Do\nTroubleshoot and resolve issues on sequencing instruments to support research and development activities.\nCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure instruments are fit for purpose, including implementing hardware and software modifications where required.\nMonitor instrument performance through sequencing data analysis and execute preventative maintenance and upgrade activities.\nPartner with EERD and Systems Integration teams to maintain fleet availability and operational excellence.\nSupport, mentor, and provide technical guidance to junior team members.\nDevelop and communicate key performance metrics, including failure analysis and Pareto reporting.\nProvide timely, clear communication to users regarding investigations, corrective actions, and repair timelines.\nCollaborate with global instrument and software development teams, including colleagues in the United States, to support software, firmware, and hardware upgrades.\nRepresent the engineering support function on project teams requiring sequencing instrument expertise.\nWhat You'll Bring\nRequired Qualifications & Experience\nBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Bioinformatics, Physical Sciences, or a related discipline.\nSignificant experience supporting complex opto-electronic systems in a commercial or R&D environment.\nStrong troubleshooting capability across integrated hardware, firmware, and software systems.\nCoding experience and hands-on experience working with Linux operating systems.\nExperience troubleshooting and diagnosing PCB-level issues.\nStrong communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.\nAbility to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities.\nPreferred Experience\nExperience working with sequencing instrumentation or related life science technologies.\nKnowledge of enterprise processes and tools such as Jira, Jama, and Confluence.\nExperience working within cross-functional and geographically distributed teams.\nThe estimated base salary range for the Staff Systems Support Engineer role based in United Kingdom is GBP 69,500 - 104,300.\n\nThe range reflects long-term growth in the role; therefore, most candidates are hired between the minimum and middle of the range. Placement depends on experience, skills, location, and internal equity. This salary range applies to the primary posting location listed above. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range will be updated accordingly.
