The\n\ngoal of the student project is to develop an electrochemical based biosensor,\n\nparticularly working on the functionalization of the sensor electrode.\n\nMoreover, the lab characterization of the developed sensor will be performed in\n\nthis project.\nWhat you will do\nImec\n\nis developing micro-fabricated sensors to monitor biologically relevant\n\nparameters such as dissolved oxygen, glucose, electrolytes and pH for inline\n\nmonitoring in organ-on-chip and artificial organ applications. These sensors\n\nare fabricated on wafers with patterned electrode surfaces, typically using\n\nplatinum and gold. To achieve selectivity, the electrodes must be\n\nfunctionalized with analyte-specific membranes (e.g. pHEMA, Ag/AgCl paste, ion\n\nselective membrane). The\n\nmembranes are dispensed using an automated dispenser, which must be optimized\n\nfor sensor dimensions and membrane properties. Handling the dispenser is\n\nparticularly challenging due to the small electrode size (typically ~200 µm in\n\ndiameter). Once the membranes are deposited, the sensors are evaluated in\n\nsolution using electrochemical techniques such as potentiometry, amperometry,\n\nand impedance spectroscopy. During this project you will: Conduct a\n\n literature study on electrochemical sensors based on potentiometry,\n\n amperometry, and impedance spectroscopy. Investigate the\n\n mechanical properties of membranes used for electrochemical sensor\n\n functionalization. Develop a\n\n protocol to optimize the automated dispenser for printing membranes such\n\n as ion selective membranes, Ag/AgCl paste and pHEMA. Evaluate the\n\n performance of functionalized electrodes using laboratory electrochemical\n\n setups. Document your\n\n results in a written report and present.
