You’ll own team performance, predictable delivery, and engineering quality, while still contributing to architecture and code where it matters most.\nYou’ll report to the Engineering Director and work closely with Product, Design, and Analytics to drive meaningful business impact.\nIn this role, you will:\nTeam Leadership & People Development\nLead and grow a high-performing engineering team (4-9 engineers), providing clear direction, focus, and context\n\nHire, mentor, and develop engineers through continuous feedback and performance conversations\n\nFoster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and engineering excellence\n\nEnsure accountability for outcomes, quality, and predictable delivery\n\nDelivery & Execution\nOwn end-to-end delivery, including planning, prioritisation, and dependency management\n\nProactively manage risks, remove blockers, and ensure timely execution\n\nPartner with Product to define roadmaps and OKRs\n\nCommunicate progress, trade-offs, and outcomes to stakeholders\n\nTechnical Leadership (hands-on ~40%)\nContribute to architecture, prototypes, and critical code paths\n\nValidate technical solutions across service design, integrations, and data models\n\nEnsure alignment between technical initiatives and product priorities\n\nEngineering Excellence\nContinuously improve engineering practices (code reviews, testing, CI/CD, observability, incident management)\n\nBuild scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems following clean architecture principles\n\nDrive performance optimisation and cost efficiency\n\nChampion modern development practices, including AI-assisted workflows\n\nThe skills you bring:\n5+ years of software engineering experience\n\n2+ years of people management experience with ownership of team outcomes\n\nProven track record of delivering high-quality software in a predictable way\n\nStrong experience in system design and distributed architectures\n\nAbility to balance process and pragmatism - improving quality without adding unnecessary complexity\n\nExperience with modern cloud environments (AWS or similar), CI/CD, and containerisation\n\nFamiliarity with observability and operational excellence practices\n\nStrong communication and stakeholder management skills (English required; German is a plus)\n\nCuriosity and adaptability to quickly learn new technologies and domains\n\nOur Tech stack:\nOur primary stack includes .NET, C#, AWS (API Gateway, Lambda, SNS/SQS, DynamoDB, ECS/Fargate), Docker, GitHub, CircleCI, and Terraform.\nLocation & setup\nBerlin, Germany\n\nCross-functional product team\n\nHands-on leadership role combining technical contribution and people management\n\nNote from the Hiring Manager:\nYou will lead one of the most technically ambitious initiatives in the company: a ground-up rebuild of the core platform domain that powers every listing across our classifieds. This is not an incremental improvement project, it is a full-scale architectural transformation from scratch, and you will be at the center of it.\nYour team owns the foundation the entire business runs on.
