Shift Differential)\nImpact Workforce Solutions is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to perform inspection, troubleshooting, repair, fabrication, and preventative maintenance on historic diesel and electric locomotives in Mayfield, KY.This is an excellent opportunity for mechanics with experience working on diesel engines, heavy equipment, commercial trucks, automotive systems, aircraft, agricultural equipment, or other mechanical systems who are looking to apply their skills in a unique railroad environment.\nWhat You'll Do\nInspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain diesel and electric locomotives and mechanical systems.\nDiagnose malfunctions in diesel engines, air systems, trucks, and other locomotive components.\nPerform preventative maintenance and emergency repairs.\nReplace and repair components such as wheels and trucks, traction motors, springs, couplers, draft gear, gear cases, cylinder heads, air compressors, turbochargers, and related equipment.\nPerform daily locomotive service, including fueling, watering, lubricating, oiling, cleaning, and checking supplies.\nPerform periodic and annual inspections in accordance with applicable Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) requirements.\nRead and interpret blueprints, schematics, work instructions, and technical documentation.\nMaintain accurate written and electronic records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities.\nComplete work orders, travelers, and required documentation accurately and on time.\nSafely operate mechanical equipment and tools, including torque wrenches, pipe threaders, tubing benders, cutting torches, electric and pneumatic hand tools, forklifts, and overhead cranes.\nKeep work areas, tools, and equipment clean and organized.\nWork independently with minimal supervision while maintaining safety, quality, and productivity standards.\nAssist with training and sharing technical knowledge with seasonal and part-time mechanical staff.\nFollow all railroad safety rules, FRA requirements, PPE requirements, blue signal/worker protection procedures, and company policies.\nAdvanced Mechanical Skills\nDepending on experience, additional responsibilities may include:Aligning rotating equipment.\nIdentifying locomotive systems and performing air tests.\nUsing precision measuring instruments and specialized mechanical tooling.\nTroubleshooting complex mechanical and air systems.\nWhat We're Looking ForStrong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.\nKnowledge of diesel engines and mechanical systems.\nAbility to diagnose problems and determine appropriate repairs.\nAbility to read blueprints, schematics, and technical instructions.\nAbility to use hand tools, power tools, precision instruments, and mechanical equipment.\nAbility to work independently with minimal supervision.\nStrong attention to detail and commitment to safety.\nWillingness to learn locomotive-specific systems and railroad procedures.\nPhysical Requirements\nThis is a hands-on mechanical position that requires:\nAbility to lift and handle materials weighing up to 50 pounds.\nAbility to work in tight, confined, and hard-to-reach areas.\nFrequent standing, walking, squatting, kneeling, climbing stairs, and working around heavy equipment.\nAbility to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather and temperature conditions.\nExposure to noise, vibration, oils, lubricants, cutting torches, welding operations, and mechanical equipment.\nAbility to wear required PPE and follow all safety procedures.\nThis is a safety-sensitive position involving work on or around railroad tracks, locomotives, and heavy equipment. Employees must strictly follow railroad safety procedures, FRA regulations, blue signal/worker protection requirements, PPE requirements, and company policies.
