The ideal candidate brings extensive experience with liquid propulsion systems, hazardous operations, and high-performance test facilities, along with a proven track record of building teams and establishing a culture of safety, accountability, and operational excellence.\nNote: This position qualifies for a Mojave differential pay\nResponsibilities\nProvide overall leadership and operational accountability for the Propulsion Test Facility, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient execution of all site activities\nLead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary organization of engineers, technicians, and test operators, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning\nOwn all aspects of facility operations, including test execution, infrastructure, maintenance, hazardous operations, and operational readiness\nEstablish operational priorities and manage facility schedules, staffing, and resources to support development, qualification, and production test programs\nPartner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Facilities, EHS, and Program Management to ensure the facility meets current program objectives while scaling to future business needs\nOversee facility maintenance, capital improvements, equipment upgrades, and long-term infrastructure planning to maximize capability, reliability, and uptime\nEnsure compliance with all applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements while maintaining the highest standards of operational discipline\nLead root cause investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, quality, reliability, and operational efficiency\nResolve complex technical and operational challenges through sound engineering judgment, decisive leadership, and effective cross-functional collaboration\nEstablish and maintain high technical, operational, and professional standards across the organization\nServe as the primary decision-maker during critical facility operations and provide clear leadership during off-nominal and emergency situations\nChampion a culture of safety, technical excellence, operational rigor, and ownership throughout the organization\n\nMinimum Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, or a related field\n10+ years of demonstrated experience in development or production test engineering\nDemonstrated success building and developing high-performing engineering teams\nDemonstrated understanding of fluid systems, instrumentation, data acquisition, and control systems \nProven ability to manage complex test operations safely and effectively\nExperience leading multidisciplinary technical teams in fast-paced development environments\n\nPreferred Skills and Experience\nMaster’s degree in an engineering discipline or management field\n12+ years experience in rocket, propulsion, or aerospace test engineering\nDemonstrated experience directing hot-fire tests for liquid rocket propulsion systems\nExtensive knowledge of methane/liquid oxygen or other cryogenic propulsion systems\nFamiliarity with test automation, data systems, and safety management\nExperience as a Site Director/Lead\n\nAdditional Information\n\nThis role is based on-site at our Mojave Test facility at the Mojave Air & Space Port\nOccasional travel to partner locations may be required\nApplicants must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents due to export control regulations\n\nAdditional Information:\nCompensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.\nImpulse Space’s spacecraft manufacturing business is subject to U.S. export regulations including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
