You will work closely with our Lead Architect / Platform Lead and act as a technical anchor for our core engineering team. Your primary responsibility will be ensuring that the team consistently delivers high-quality, maintainable software, while helping establish strong engineering standards across the wider technology organization.\nThis is a hands-on engineering role. You will design solutions, review architecture, write and review code, support engineers in difficult technical decisions, and help teams turn product requirements into reliable production software.\nYour role\nTake technical ownership of software delivery within our core engineering team\n\nEnsure features are designed and implemented to a consistently high engineering standard\n\nCoordinate technical implementation across Backend, Frontend, Mobile and QA where required\n\nTranslate product and business requirements into clear technical approaches and implementation plans\n\nDesign and implement backend services using TypeScript, Node.js and NestJS\n\nArchitect solutions on AWS, primarily using serverless and managed services\n\nMake technical decisions around service boundaries, APIs, data models, integrations and asynchronous workflows\n\nReview designs, pull requests and implementation approaches for complex or high-risk changes\n\nIdentify technical risks early and help engineers resolve architectural or implementation issues before they affect delivery\n\nEstablish and continuously improve coding standards, engineering practices and development guidelines\n\nSupport engineers through mentoring, pair programming, code reviews and technical design sessions\n\nHelp maintain consistent engineering standards across multiple development teams, including external engineering partners\n\nWork closely with our architect on system architecture, scalability, reliability and technical evolution\n\nEnsure new functionality includes appropriate testing, observability, monitoring, security, operational readiness and documentation\n\nImprove engineering productivity through better tooling, automation and development practices\n\nHelp adopt and implementation when projects require senior hands-on engineering support\n\nWhat you'll bring\n8+ years of software engineering experience, with experience operating at Lead or strong Senior / Tech Lead level\n\nStrong hands-on experience with TypeScript and Node.js\n\nProduction experience with NestJS, Express, Fastify or comparable Node.js frameworks\n\nStrong understanding of software architecture, distributed systems and modern backend design\n\nSignificant hands-on experience with AWS\n\nExperience designing production systems using services such as:\nAWS Lambda\n\nAPI Gateway\n\nS3\n\nSQS\n\nEventBridge\n\nStep Functions\n\nCognito\n\nDynamoDB\n\nStrong experience with Infrastructure as Code, preferably AWS CDK and/or Terraform\n\nExperience designing and operating microservices and event-driven architectures\n\nStrong database knowledge across both document and relational models, ideally including:\nMongoDB / DocumentDB\n\nDynamoDB\n\nMySQL / Aurora\n\nGood understanding of API and real-time communication design using REST, OpenAPI and WebSockets\n\nExperience with asynchronous processing, retries, idempotency, distributed workflows and failure handling\n\nStrong understanding of automated testing and modern testing strategies\n\nExperience with CI/CD and multi-environment deployment pipelines\n\nStrong understanding of observability and monitoring, including logs, metrics, tracing, alerting and production troubleshooting\n\nAbility to design systems with operational visibility in mind and diagnose complex production issues across application and infrastructure layers\n\nGood understanding of application security, authentication, authorization and secure software development practices\n\nExperience improving performance, scalability and reliability of production systems\n\nStrong Git and pull-request based development practices\n\nProven experience mentoring engineers and improving the technical quality of a team\n\nComfortable challenging implementation decisions and constructively raising the engineering bar\n\nStrong communication skills and the ability to work directly with Product, QA, Architecture
