Prepares and delivers lectures, discussions, laboratory activities, and other instructional activities; evaluates and documents student learning and performance; maintains accurate course and attendance records; and provides appropriate academic guidance and feedback.\nMaintains current knowledge of the discipline and utilizes appropriate instructional technologies and learning management systems. Promotes an inclusive, engaging, and academically rigorous learning environment; complies with College policies and procedures and established instructional and reporting requirements; communicates effectively with students and College personnel; and participates in departmental activities and professional development as assigned.\nSPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:\nThe specific duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:\n· Instructing assigned classes; grading all quizzes, tests, and written assignment;\n· Assigning final grades and delivering grades;\n· Maintaining a safe and effective classroom environment;\n· Participating in general adjunct faculty meetings;\n· Completing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.\nQUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:\nRequired;\nMaster’s degree in a discipline of Oceanography;\nor Master’s degree in an Earth Science (as defined for ESC courses) or a related marine science subfield with at least six (6) graduate semester hours in a discipline of Oceanography;\nor Master’s degree and 18 graduate semester hours in Oceanography\nExcellent communication skills - both verbal and written;\nAbility to work with and teach to diverse populations is essential;\nAbility to apply traditional and innovative technologies is essential;\nAbility to develop and/or implement strategies to support students’ retention, persistence, and program completion is essential;\nAbility to use data and assessment tools in the evaluation and improvement of instruction;\nAbility to engage students as active partners in the teaching/learning process;\nAbility to relate the concepts of biology to real life situations and applications;\nComputer literacy and experience using technology in the learning environment is essential;\nPreferred;\nAn understanding of learning styles is preferred; willingness to learn is essential;\nAppropriate credentialing requirements to meet all current and future accreditation requirements;\nExperience teaching in an online environment preferred;\nExperience teaching at a two-year post-secondary institution preferred\nPHYSICAL DEMANDS:\nThis position requires an ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time and to present oral lectures/demonstrations, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. Some lifting of computer and electronic equipment may be required. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary.
