Responsibilities include developing, implementing and modifying athletic training policies and procedures. Instruct student-athletes on injury care, prevention and rehabilitation methods for existing injuries. Establish and maintain a relationship with a local physician to ensure timely care for athlete’s needs. Work flexible and fluctuating hours and responsibilities across various functional areas within the institution as required.\nSPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:\nDevelop and implement athletic training services within the Indian River State College athletic department. \nRepresent the college at State, regional, and national meetings.\nManage initial athletic clearance, including medical forms, insurance information and pre-participation physicals prior to athlete being allowed to participate with his/her athletic team.\nEducate student -athletes on injury and illness evaluation, rehabilitation and appropriate physician referrals.\nInstruct student athletes on injury prevention and on rehabilitative methodologies.\nProvide treatment and apply therapeutic modalities, taping, bracing, and splinting/casting.\nEstablish and maintain relationships with orthopedic and general practice physicians to enhance medical care for student-athletes.\nWork under the direction of the supervising physician.\nSchedule and accompany student-athletes to medical appointments as needed.\nCommunicate with physicians and coaches regarding student-athlete injury and participation status.\nMaintain and inventory supplies biannually.\nKeep daily progress notes and additional records of communication with physicians, teachers, and parents.\nFile insurance claims related to athletic injuries.\nOversee and schedule the department's drug testing program with a third-party contractor.\nCover all home athletic events and tournaments sponsored by the college.\nTravel to away athletic events as schedule permits.\nSupervise students interested in pursuing a degree in athletic training.\nDriving duties as assigned.\nCollaborate with the team to support student success, retention, and completion.\nCompletes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.\nQUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:\nBachelor’s degree in athletic training, Master’s degree in Athletic Training preferred;\nTwo (2) years Minimum of two (2) years of proven athletic training experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer; preferably in a collegiate setting.\nCurrent Proof of certification by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Board of Certification (BOC);\nBasic Life Support (BLS) certification;\nFlorida State Licensure or eligibility of receiving licensing within 60 days of date of hire;\nFamiliarity with NJCAA governing rules;\nValid Florida driver’s license\nExcellent leadership, organizational, and efficiency skills;\nExcellent communication skills, both verbal and written, specifically related to athletic training policies and procedures; and to work within a state ranked program;\nAbility to maintain strict accuracy and be detail oriented;\nAbility, technical skills, and proven knowledge to work with elite collegiate athletes;\nMotivated self-starter with high character, and integrity\nAbility to work independently as well as with others;\nProven experience with Microsoft Office and Windows based applications;\nPHYSICAL DEMANDS:\nThis position classifies the physical exertion requirements as medium work involving lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds in addition to standing or sitting for extended periods of time. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College. If someone can do medium work, we determine that he or she can also do sedentary and light work.\nADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS:\nRequirements are representative of minimum levels of knowledge, skills and/or abilities.
