We combine AI solutions, commercial expertise, and complex business logic to address government and federal agencies’ biggest challenges.\nJOB SUMMARY\nAs an Associate Application Developer, you will work alongside experienced mainframe engineers, analysts, testers, and architects. You will use AI-enabled development tools, modern programming languages, automation, and integration technologies to analyze and resolve prioritized backlog items, improve engineering productivity, and create documented, tested, and reusable building blocks for application modernization.\nKey Responsibilities\nUse AI-assisted development tools for code generation, code explanation, documentation, test creation, impact analysis, troubleshooting, and developer productivity while maintaining traceability of prompts, generated outputs, reviews, test evidence, and final engineering decisions.\n\nDevelop modern utilities, scripts, services, APIs, or automation that help solve problems involving legacy applications and development workflows.\n\nAnalyze legacy source code, technical documentation, batch-job definitions and output, data structures, interfaces, and operational dependencies with guidance from experienced team members.\n\nTranslate legacy business logic into clear technical documentation, test scenarios, service definitions, and modernization-ready requirements that support current backlog delivery and reduce dependency on undocumented institutional knowledge.\n\nDevelop proofs of concept and incremental solutions that connect mainframe capabilities with distributed, cloud, web, data, or API-based technologies, and document the technical findings, constraints, and reusable patterns that should inform future modernization decisions.\n\nCreate and maintain unit tests, automated tests, technical documentation, and reusable engineering assets.\n\nParticipate in code reviews, testing, defect resolution, release activities, and production-support analysis with guidance appropriate to an early-career developer.\n\nFollow established secure development, SDLC, change management, responsible AI, and release processes.\n\nContinuously build knowledge of the application domain, mainframe concepts, AI development practices, and modernization patterns.\n\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, information systems, data science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.\n\nAcademic, internship, project, or professional experience developing software with a modern language such as Java, Python, C#, JavaScript, or TypeScript.\n\nAcademic, internship, project, or professional experience using AI-assisted development tools or generative AI capabilities to analyze, generate, test, document, or troubleshoot software.\n\nFoundational understanding of software development concepts, source control, APIs, testing, debugging, and data structures.\n\nAbility to learn unfamiliar systems, trace application behavior across technologies, ask effective questions of subject-matter experts, and break complex technical problems into manageable steps.\n\nStrong analytical, problem-solving, troubleshooting, written communication, and collaboration skills.\n\nWillingness to work with legacy systems and partner closely with experienced mainframe developers.\n\nAbility to critically review AI-generated code, documentation, tests, and analysis for correctness, security, maintainability, and alignment with established engineering standards before the output is incorporated into a deliverable.\n\nAbility to work effectively within a team while managing assigned work with appropriate guidance.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience with GitHub Copilot, IBM watsonx, Azure AI, or comparable AI-enabled development tools, including practical use for code comprehension, test generation, documentation, or controlled code generation.\n\nExposure to cloud platforms, containerization, CI/CD pipelines, REST APIs, microservices, or event-driven architecture.\n\nExperience with automated testing, code analysis, data transformation, or developer-productivity tooling.\n\nFamiliarity with relational databases, SQL, structured files, or enterprise data integration.\n\nCoursework, project, internship, or professional exposure to COBOL, JCL, batch processing, job scheduling, VSAM, DB2, CICS, or another enterprise mainframe technology.\n\nExposure to regulated, financial services, government, or other mission-critical environments.\n\nAbility to obtain and maintain a U.S. citizen security clearance, if required for
