This role focuses on full-stack software engineering, team leadership, and the establishment of strong software engineering practices.\nWhile a physics background is not required, familiarity with physical systems or scientific instrumentation will be helpful. The ideal candidate is a software engineer first, with strong embedded systems awareness and proven leadership in modern software development environments.\nRole and responsibilities\nLeadership & Coordination of global software development efforts for quantum sensing products \nServe as technical lead for the software engineering team, guiding day-to-day operations and development priorities. \nCollaborate with project managers and technical leads to plan and execute development milestones. \nLead daily stand-up meetings, manage the Jira board, and ensure timely completion of sprint goals. \nOversee and enforce software engineering best practices, including code reviews, testing standards, documentation, and CI/CD processes. \nAct as the liaison between the software engineering team and the broader multidisciplinary project team. \nSoftware Development \nLead development of the frontend application built with React/Next.js, ensuring high performance, maintainability, and scalability. \nOwn the backend REST API written in Python (FastAPI), ensuring robust integration with hardware control and middleware layers. \nContribute to integration with Rust-based middleware and/or driver software used for device control. \nCollaborate with embedded systems engineers to ensure seamless interaction between software and hardware components. \nParticipate in architecture discussions and contribute to technical design documentation. \nSupport the transition of projects from prototype to production-ready systems. \nRequirements\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience. \n4+ years of professional software engineering experience. \nExpert-level proficiency in Python and JavaScript/TypeScript. \nStrong experience with React and Next.js frontend frameworks. \nExperience with FastAPI or similar modern Python web frameworks. \nFamiliarity with embedded software concepts (device drivers, low-level APIs, hardware communication protocols). \nDemonstrated experience leading software development teams or acting as a technical lead. \nDeep understanding of modern development workflows (Git, Jira, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing). \nDesired Qualifications\nExperience with Rust (especially in middleware or systems contexts). \nExposure to or interest in scientific instrumentation, hardware control, or physics-related systems. \nFamiliarity with Docker, Kubernetes, or other containerized deployment systems. \nExperience in startups or R&D-focused environments. \nThis position may require access to information protected under U.S. export control laws and regulations for quantum sensing technology. We ask that candidates be able to efficiently use automated office equipment such as laptops, copiers, and printers; able to effectively engage in communications (via phone, computer, or in-person).
