The company harnesses quantum mechanics to build and integrate quantum computers, sensors, and networks. From fundamental physics to leading edge commercial products, Infleqtion enables “quantum everywhere” through our ecosystem of devices and platforms.\nInfleqtion is seeking a system-level mechanical engineer to design the infrastructure, mounting, and environmental-survivability architecture that allows our Quantum Gravity Gradiometer (QGG) to transition from the laboratory to both terrestrial and space environments. In this role, the candidate will work the structural mounting, damping, isolation, thermal interfaces, and mechanical integration needed for the QGG sensor head to survive launch, handling, transport, and pre-launch microgravity testing while preserving the precision required for quantum measurement.\nThe role requires close collaboration with our prime customer(s), internal management, researchers, systems engineers, optical and electrical engineers, aerospace experts, manufacturing partners, suppliers, and external contractors. The individual will actively engage customers and partners throughout the program lifecycle, ensuring delivery against milestones and commitments while maintaining alignment with Infleqtion's product lifecycle and quality standards. Cross-disciplinary engagement is expected, with this role driving technical alignment across mechanical, optical, electrical, systems, and mission domains.\nJob Responsibilities\nThe duties and responsibilities outlined below include essential functions of the role. Depending on business needs, this role may perform a combination or all of the following duties. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned.\nTogether with other mechanical engineers, complete the design of the QGG sensor head and associated hardware so it can operate in development and microgravity test environments as well as terrestrial and space applications. This includes making disciplined trades among structural dynamics, thermal performance, optical alignment stability, magnetic cleanliness, mass, packaging, manufacturability, and quantum-sensor performance. \nPresent progress, analyses, risks, design decisions, and test results to senior management, design-review boards, and the end customer. \nExecute and direct the modeling, simulation, analysis, and test-correlation efforts required to enable product performance, including structural, thermal, modal, vibration, shock, and tolerance analysis as appropriate. \nResponsible for the mechanical integration of sensor-head subsystems with optical, electrical, vacuum, thermal, fiber, cable, and external spacecraft or ground-test interfaces. \nIdentify, qualify, and technically manage key suppliers for precision machined parts, opto-mechanical hardware, isolation/damping hardware, specialty materials, and manufacturing processes. \nFollow Infleqtion's Product Lifecycle Process and support phased gate reviews, design reviews, configuration control, build readiness, environmental test readiness, and executive updates. \nDevelop and maintain mechanical risk-management and risk-resolution plans; support reliability analysis, nonconformance resolution, lessons learned, and continuous improvement. \nCoach and mentor junior engineers in practical mechanical design, drawing quality, tolerance analysis, build discipline, and design-for-manufacturability/test. \nOther duties as assigned or required \nRequirements\nMinimum Qualifications\nBachelor's degree required in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline. \n6+ years of relevant and progressive experience in precision mechanical, opto-mechanical, aerospace, or high-reliability hardware roles. \nDemonstrated expert-level proficiency in SolidWorks CAD design tools, including parts, assemblies, drawings, and configuration control. \nExcellent proficiency in first-principles mechanical engineering, including load paths, stiffness, thermal expansion, tolerancing, materials, and design trade studies. \nExperience using SolidWorks Simulation or comparable structural/thermal analysis tools; ability to interpret results and correlate analyses with hardware test. \nExcellent technical leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to drive decisions across mechanical, optical, electrical, systems, and manufacturing teams. \nAdvanced understanding of opto-mechanics, including free-space optical mounting, collimation, free-space and fiber-coupled alignment, flexures, and alignment/tolerance stability through build and environmental test. \nDemonstrated DFx experience: design for cost, manufacturing, assembly, test, reliability, and serviceability. \nUnderstanding of ASTM E595 and practical material selection for vacuum and space environments, including outgassing, thermal expansion, contamination, corrosion, and non-magnetic constraints. \nExperience designing custom flexure mounts, precision optical/instrument mounts, or passive isolation/damping features. \nDemonstrated tolerance analysis and tolerance-stack-up experience for precision assemblies. \nHands-on engineer with experience building, debugging, and improving engineering-development and flight- or production-intent hardware. \nUses AI appropriately for engineering leverage while understanding the limitations of current platforms and maintaining independent technical judgment and verification. \nAbility to travel domestically and (potentially) internationally up to 10% \nDesired Qualifications\nComfortable with a hands-on engineering-leadership approach, including time in the lab, supplier discussions, integration, and environmental test. \nMaster's or PhD degree in aerospace, mechanical engineering, or related field. \nExperience delivering advanced technologies to commercial, civil, defense, or space markets, ideally through formal design review and environmental verification. \nExperience in hardware DFx (design for cost, manufacturing, assembly, test, sustainment) and supplier technical management. \nFamiliarity with quantum sensing, atomic physics, precision optics/photonics, vacuum systems, or high-stability inertial/gravity instrumentation. \nBenefits\nSalary Range: per year 175000-200000\n100% company-paid medical, dental, vision, short/long-term disability \nEmployer-funded Health Savings Account \nUnlimited PTO \n401(k) match \nCompany-paid Life and AD&D Insurance \nFlexible Savings Account \nPaid FMLA, Maternity/Paternity Leave \nEmployee Assistance Program \nStudent Loan Repayment \nEquity Program\nNotice to Recruitment Agencies:\nInfleqtion does not accept unsolicited resumes from agencies. Infleqtion is not responsible for any fees related to unsolicited resumes.","description_format":"text","description_chars":6818,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Equity","Unlimited PTO"],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Quantum Science & Computing","Sensors & Transducers","Quantum Computing Hardware"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-05T15:26:10Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":44,"band":"fade","label":"Fading","p_open":1,"p_active":0.792,"p_room":0.55,"age_days":59,"expected_fill_days":44,"reasons":["conf:1","velocity","win:tail"],"computed_at":"2026-11-02T06:13:15Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/infleqtion-staff-mechanical-engineer-qss","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/infleqtion-staff-mechanical-engineer-qss.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-11-02T15:41:34Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":21734,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-11-03T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":6532},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=6532"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Finfleqtion-staff-mechanical-engineer-qss"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Finfleqtion-staff-mechanical-engineer-qss"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Finfleqtion-staff-mechanical-engineer-qss"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/infleqtion-staff-mechanical-engineer-qss\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Finfleqtion-staff-mechanical-engineer-qss"}],"agent":{"mcp":"https://alion.io/mcp/jobs","mcp_open":"https://alion.io/mcp/open","next":[{"tool":"get_job","arguments":{"id":304852}},{"tool":"search_jobs","arguments":{"company":"infleqtion.com","detail":"compact"}},{"tool":"match_people","arguments":{"job_id":304852},"note":"people open to offers who fit this vacancy"}],"note":"The same data through MCP tools: https://alion.io/mcp/open needs no sign-in (compact searches, postings, people); https://alion.io/mcp with an Alion account has everything.
