For more information, visit www.influxdata.com.\nWe're hiring a Senior Staff Software Engineer to be a company-level technical leader for InfluxDB 3.0, reporting directly to the Chief Product Officer.\nInfluxDB 3.0 is a fast, columnar, time series database backed by object storage, written from the ground up in Rust, using Apache Arrow, Arrow Flight, and DataFusion. You'll write code for the storage engine and shape where it goes next, while acting as a trusted voice on large-scale developer data platforms and engineering best practice.\nThis is a hands-on role with company-wide reach. You'll set technical direction across multiple divisions, turn product strategy into architecture, and represent InfluxData's engineering perspective to executives and customers.\nWhat you'll do\nSet technical strategy\nHelp shape the long-term technical vision for the InfluxDB 3.0 product line and its place in the wider product portfolio.\n\nPartner with the other engineering leaders to shape product strategy, roadmap bets and build-vs-buy decisions.\n\nIdentify the problems that matter most before they become urgent, and decide which ones not to solve.\n\nBuild the core\nDesign and write production Rust for the storage engine: ingestion, compaction, columnar storage on object stores, caching and query execution with DataFusion.\n\nDrive the hardest work in distributed caching, reliability and performance, from benchmarks to production.\n\nContribute to cloud deployment discussions across AWS and Azure.\n\nLead across the company\nSet engineering standards and best practice adopted across multiple teams and divisions.\n\nParticipate in the on-call rotation and raise the bar for operational excellence.\n\nMentor staff and senior engineers, and grow the next generation of technical leaders.\n\nWhat we’re looking for\n15+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including several years at senior staff level or above. An advanced degree in computer science or a related field is a plus; equivalent experience counts.\n\nA track record of building and operating distributed systems at large scale.\n\nHands-on experience building on multiple cloud vendors (AWS, GCP, Azure) and object storage.\n\nDeep hands-on Rust experience, or strong systems experience and a desire to master Rust.\n\nExpertise in distributed caching, reliability and performance engineering.\n\nProven ability to set technical direction across multiple teams or divisions and influence executive decisions.\n\nClear written and verbal communication with engineers, executives and customers alike.\n\nIt’s a plus if you have\nExperience with time series or observability workloads at high ingest rates.\n\nExperience running a database as a managed cloud service.\n\nPublished talks, papers or writing on databases or distributed systems.\n\nApplications will be accepted on a rolling basis.\nInterview Information:\nOur interview process begins remotely.
