The role is Python-led, covering the services, APIs and data layer behind our web and mobile applications, and working closely with engineers across the stack.\nIt suits an engineer who enjoys solving problems across a varied technology stack and picks up new tools quickly. Proficiency in every technology listed below is not expected; being proactive and keen to learn is what matters most.\nWhat You'll Do\nDesign, build and maintain backend services in Python (Flask) that power the TimeKeeper platform\nDevelop and improve APIs, data models and Postgres queries, with a focus on reliability and performance\nShape features based on customer and team feedback, and deliver them alongside the web and mobile teams\nWrite automated tests, investigate issues and fix bugs\nReview pull requests and share knowledge with the wider team\nContribute to infrastructure and deployment work across AWS, Terraform and Redis\nPrioritise and manage multiple tasks, delivering on time and picking up new topics as needed\nBuild strong working relationships and contribute positively to the team\nWhat We're Looking For\nEssential\nMinimum 4 years of professional experience as a Software Engineer, with a strong backend focus\nProfessional experience building and maintaining backend services and APIs in Python\nWorking knowledge of SQL and relational databases\nExperience writing automated tests and reviewing code\nComfortable working alongside AI tools; curious about how technology can make you better at your job\n Nice to Have\nExperience with Python frameworks and libraries such as Flask, Django or SQLAlchemy\nRelevant AWS infrastructure experience, including Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)\nExperience with Postgres and Redis in production\nFamiliarity with React or React Native, enough to work effectively with front-end colleagues\nBachelor's or higher degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field\n\nThe Technology Stack\n\nPython (Flask) - Backend services\n\nPostgres - Database\n\nRedis - Application cache layer\n\nAWS - Infrastructure\n\nTerraform - Infrastructure as Code\n\nReact - Web application\n\nReact Native - Mobile application\nDon’t worry if you aren’t proficient in all of these, the main thing is you are proactive and able to pick new things up.\nWorking At Bright\nBright builds software that genuinely makes people's working lives easier.
