About the role

Informed Solutions partners with leading public sector bodies and large private sector organisations to deliver innovative, high-impact digital transformation programmes.

We are looking for an experienced and commercially minded Senior Project Accountant to join our Finance team. This is a highly visible role, partnering with operational and delivery leaders to provide commercial insight, strengthen forecasting accuracy, and drive business performance.

You will play a key role in ensuring the financial and commercial integrity of our projects, supporting decision-making through robust forecasting, billing, contract management, and business planning activities.

Working closely with stakeholders across the organisation, you will help identify risks and opportunities, improve commercial performance, and ensure contractual and financial obligations are effectively managed.

This role offers flexibility to be based from our Altrincham Office (Manchester) where you’ll be part of a collaborative, high-performing team environment, supported by our hybrid working approach.

Requirements

Commercial Business Partnering

  • Facilitate monthly commercial review meetings with key stakeholders to improve forecast quality, commercial decision-making, and business performance.
  • Provide commercial insight and challenge to support effective business decisions and maximise project profitability.
  • Represent Finance in client and engagement meetings, acting as a trusted commercial adviser to delivery and operational teams.
  • Build strong working relationships across the business, including client counterparts and third-party partners where appropriate.

Forecasting & Business Planning

  • Lead the assurance of business pipeline and revenue forecasts, ensuring information is accurate, reliable and supports strategic decision-making.
  • Partner with stakeholders to translate forecasts into actionable business plans.
  • Identify commercial risks and opportunities, developing mitigation plans and recommendations to improve performance.

Billing, Revenue & Contract Management

  • Lead the month-end billing cycle, ensuring invoices accurately reflect contractual terms and all billable activity is captured.
  • Own and maintain the commercial contract register, proactively managing contractual obligations, renewal activity, risks and commercial opportunities.
  • Ensure revenue recognition and invoicing activities are accurate, complete and supported by appropriate evidence.

Key Responsibilities to the Project Accountancy Discipline

  • Champion and actively contribute to and improve policies, standards, and guidelines through the OOM processes, based on experience and awareness of wider industry best practice and innovations.
  • Play a leading role in the ongoing development of the discipline, driving innovation, best practice adoption, and supporting leads to maintain an energised community of practitioners, taking a leading role in meetings and activities. Motivate and empower practitioners to create a positive and creative culture for our people to perform well, learn and grow.
  • Support the growth of Informed’s capability by helping to recruit staff (interviews, assessments), and contributing to InformedACADEMY© (masterclasses, training), shaping materials to achieve curriculum outcomes.
  • Provide Practitioner Coaching for less experienced practitioners.

About You

You'll be a qualified accountant with strong commercial acumen and a passion for partnering with the business to drive performance.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Recognised professional accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Strong commercial finance, project accounting or finance business partnering experience.
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders and challenge constructively at all levels.
  • Experience managing forecasts, budgets, revenue recognition and commercial reporting.
  • Strong understanding of contract management and project financial controls.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Experience supporting audits and operating within a robust governance framework.

Desirable

  • Experience within consultancy, professional services, engineering, technology or project-based environments.
  • Experience leading process improvement initiatives and driving commercial best practice.
  • Previous mentoring or leadership experience within a finance function.

Key abilities that are necessary for success

  • Able to work effectively in environments where you can adapt to innovative practices involving uncertainty, change, and agile working.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and your time so you can deliver high-quality work within deadlines.
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to respect and accept different perspectives and disagreement, work collaboratively in diverse teams, and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Good judgement and decision-making in complex environments where uncertainty, ambiguity, and risk must be collaboratively managed by working supportively alongside others.
  • Good communication skills, including clear, constructive written outputs and measured, respectful verbal delivery.

We work in a fast-paced, ever-evolving innovation and problem-solving workplace environment where no two days are the same. This requires you to have the foundations of personal resilience, professional adaptability, and flexibility in working alongside others with a positive mindset.
