API Testing Engineer

We are seeking a detail-oriented API Testing Engineer with experience in manual and automated API testing. The candidate will be responsible for validating REST/SOAP APIs, ensuring system integrations function correctly, identifying defects, and improving test automation coverage across applications and services.

Responsibilities:

• Analyse business and technical requirements to create API test scenarios and test cases.
• Perform functional, integration, regression, and end-to-end API testing.
• Validate API requests, responses, status codes, headers, and payloads.
• Test RESTful and SOAP web services using tools like Postman, Swagger, and SoapUI.
• Develop and maintain automated API test scripts.
• Verify authentication and authorisation mechanisms (OAuth 2.0 JWT, API Keys, Basic Auth).
• Execute API performance and reliability testing.
• Identify, document, and track defects using defect management tools.
• Collaborate with developers, business analysts, and QA teams to resolve issues.
• Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and contribute to test planning.

Requirements:

• Strong understanding of API Testing concepts.
• Experience with REST APIs, SOAP, JSON, XML.
• Hands-on experience with: Postman, SoapUI, Swagger/OpenAPI, JMeter (performance testing).
• Knowledge of API automation frameworks using: Java + Rest Assured, Python (Requests/PyTest), JavaScript (SuperTest/Newman).
• Understanding of HTTP methods (GET, POST, PUT, PATCH, DELETE).
• Experience with SQL and database validation.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps.
• Knowledge of version control systems (Git).

• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
• 2-8 years of experience in QA/API Testing (adjust as required).
• Certifications such as ISTQB are an added advantage.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with Microservices architecture.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Experience with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Exposure to security testing tools like OWASP ZAP or Burp Suite.
