{"id":1884927,"url":"https://alion.io/job/infotrend-digital-forensic-examiner","title":"Digital Forensic Examiner","company":{"id":2312453,"name":"Info Trend","domain":"infotrend.com","url":"https://alion.io/company/infotrend-com","size_band":"1-10","is_staffing_agency":false,"employer_type":"direct","is_intermediary":false,"listed_via":null,"ats_vendor":"Paylocity","truth_index":null},"role":"Security","role_family":"Security","seniority":"junior","employment_type":null,"work_mode":"on_site","remote_scope":null,"remote_scope_basis":null,"remote_working_hours":null,"hiring_geo_confidence":"structured","locations":["Lorton, United States"],"countries":["US"],"hiring_countries":[],"hiring_countries_total":0,"salary":{"min":70000,"max":80000,"currency":"USD","period":"year","gross":null,"usd_annual":80000},"salary_estimate":null,"experience_years_min":2,"visa_sponsorship":false,"relocation_package":false,"has_equity":false,"technologies":[],"status":"live","first_seen_at":"2026-09-28T13:28:07Z","employer_posted_date":"2026-10-05","last_verified_at":"2026-10-13T16:12:46Z","board_verified":true,"closed_at":null,"days_open":15,"trust":{"level":"ok","repost_count":null,"flags":[],"days_open":15},"description":"Description\nThe Forensic Examiner supports the laboratory’s quality program by performing method validation & verification (review of forensic tools), performing instrument maintenance and testing, assisting with the Proficiency Test Program, assisting with the documentation and review of records in support of laboratory accreditation, assisting with discovery requests, assisting with maintenance and storage of electronic examination records, and organizing forensic findings to be released to investigators.ONSITE in Lorton, Va.\nRequirements\nThe Forensic Examiner position responsibilities include:\nAssisting with seizure of digital evidence from on-site search locations while minimizing possible data loss.\nPreserving and archiving digital evidence using forensic best practices.\nMaintaining proper chain of custody of evidence and associated documentation.\nInterfacing with investigators and developing analysis plan to meet customer needs.\nUtilizing authorized forensic tools to perform forensic imaging and extraction from digital media.\nMaintaining operational effectiveness of all assigned Government hardware, software, and forensic support equipment.\nWriting clear reports that accurately present forensic findings and detailed notes to ensure those results are repeatable.\nTestifying in court, Grand Jury, or other legal proceedings through testimony, sworn affidavits, or other legal instruments.\nProviding guidance and training on emerging technology and new techniques to forensic personnel as needed.\nPerforming method validation/verification (review of forensic tools)\nPerforming instrument maintenance and testing\nPerforming audits / review of forensic work\nAssisting with discovery requests\nAssisting with consolidation of electronic records of forensic analysis for filing (Case Closure)\nOrganizing laboratory records and data for delivery to laboratory customers\nInterfacing with an investigator and developing analysis plan to address questions of investigative relevance.\nPerforming forensic analysis, to include, but not limited to:\nRecovering deleted files and other system artifacts.\nDecrypting password protected data files and devices.\nPerforming forensic keyword searches and producing results.\nPerforming other laboratory forensic functions as assigned.\nAbility to travel to investigation sites within the US as needed, often with limited (1-2 day) notice, and perform analysis tasks onsite within the allotted time frames. Travel is by vehicle or by air as appropriate for the location. Occasional Saturday/Sunday travel and/or work may be required.\nMUST HAVE:\nAt least 1 year of experience in the digital forensics environment, with 2-3 years of experience preferred.\nMUST be a United States Citizen.\nAbility or obtain and maintain Public Trust.\nBachelor’s degree in a science or computer related field from an accredited University or foreign equivalent with a minimum of 24 credit hours in computer science, engineering, or mathematics.\nLaboratory-approved industry or government-issued certification in digital forensics analysis prior to assignment. Certification must demonstrate both depth and breadth of digital forensics knowledge applicable to multiple forensics tools and techniques, (e.g., EnCE, GCFE, CFCE, CAWFE, ICMDE, 3CE, 3CI, CECFE, CCIA, DCITA, DMC, DFE, CCI, MAR, CAE, FBI CART, CART Examiner, MDE, MEDEX, TEX\"). Proof of certification is required and must be presented for evaluation by the Laboratory.\nMust successfully pass competency and annual proficiency tests in Digital Forensics as administered by the Laboratory.\nMust have a valid driver’s license.\nThe salary for this position ranges from $70,000 to $80,000 annually. The exact salary offered will depend on your qualifications, experience, and alignment with the responsibilities of the role.
