Role Purpose
As a COBOL Engineer within the Customer Data & Onboarding domain, you will develop, maintain, and enhance critical mainframe applications that support customer onboarding, customer lifecycle management, customer data processing, and regulatory compliance. You will work closely with business analysts, architects, DevOps engineers, and platform teams to deliver reliable and secure solutions that serve millions of customer interactions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain COBOL-based applications running on the mainframe platform.
- Analyze business and regulatory requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Support customer onboarding and customer data management processes.
- Perform impact assessments, root cause analysis, and defect resolution.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams during project delivery and production support activities.
- Participate in release management, testing, and deployment activities.
- Ensure application stability, performance, security, and audit compliance.
- Contribute to modernization initiatives and integration between mainframe and API/distributed platforms.
- Maintain technical documentation and operational procedures.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong experience in COBOL development on IBM z/OS.
- Good knowledge of JCL, CICS, DB2, VSAM, and batch processing.
- Experience with application maintenance, incident management, and production support.
- Understanding of software development lifecycle and Agile/DevOps ways of working.
- Experience with source code management and deployment tooling.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in banking, customer data, onboarding, KYC, or regulatory domains.
- Knowledge of API integrations between mainframe and distributed platforms.
- Familiarity with Kafka, REST APIs, or cloud-based architectures.
- Understanding of data privacy, security, and compliance requirements within financial services.
