You will translate business requirements into robust data products, pipelines, data models and reporting solutions, helping stakeholders make informed decisions based on reliable data.\nYou will combine hands-on engineering expertise with end-to-end ownership across the full data lifecycle, from solution design and development through deployment, monitoring and support. In addition, you will contribute to strategic data, analytics and AI initiatives while helping to establish engineering standards, improve ways of working and foster a strong engineering culture.\nAs a senior member of the team, you will actively share knowledge, coach colleagues and promote collaboration, transparency and continuous improvement in line with ING's principles and values.\nThe role reports functionally to the Data Domain Area Lead in Amsterdam and hierarchically to the FMCC Data Solutions Lead in Bratislava.\nWhat you'll do\nDesign, develop and maintain scalable data pipelines and data products across ingestion, transformation, storage and consumption layers.\nTranslate business and regulatory requirements into robust technical solutions, governed data models and reporting capabilities.\nBuild reliable ETL/ELT processes with appropriate controls for data quality, lineage and traceability.\nContribute to solution design and technical standards for scalable, maintainable and compliant data solutions.\nEnsure engineering quality through automated testing, code reviews, CI/CD practices, monitoring and operational ownership.\nManage deployments of new and enhanced data solutions across development, test and production environments.\nAssess the impact of changes and support successful implementation through close stakeholder collaboration.\nPartner with analysts, product owners, data scientists and business stakeholders to prioritize work and deliver against agreed objectives.\nMaintain accurate technical documentation, design decisions and operational procedures.\nExplore opportunities to leverage data assets for advanced analytics and AI-driven use cases.\nCoach and mentor team members while driving knowledge sharing and engineering excellence.\nContribute actively to Agile ceremonies and support transparent planning and delivery.\nPromote reusable solutions, shared standards and cross-functional collaboration across FMCC.\nRequired skills and experience\n3+ years of experience in data engineering.\nStrong experience designing, building and operating production-grade data pipelines and data platforms.\nProficiency in Python, SQL and PySpark.\nExperience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including BigQuery.\nExperience with Git-based development workflows and collaborative software engineering practices.\nExperience working with relational and non-relational data platforms and large-scale data processing using Apache Spark.\nHands-on experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow.\nStrong understanding of data modelling, data integration, data lakes and data warehousing concepts.\nExperience with cloud object storage technologies such as Google Cloud Storage (GCS), Amazon S3 and Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 (ADLS Gen2).\nExperience with automation, CI/CD pipelines and modern software engineering practices.\nExperience supporting production environments, including incident management, monitoring and root cause analysis.\nExcellent written and verbal English communication skills\nNice to have\nExperience with Power BI, Cognos, Tableau or Looker.\nExperience with dbt or other modern data transformation frameworks.\nExperience managing distributed data processing platforms and clusters.\nFamiliarity with Financial Markets and Group Treasury products and processes.\nKnowledge of KYC (know your client) processes and financial regulations such as EMIR, MiFID, SFTR, AFSL and MAS.\nUnderstanding of financial market participants, including brokers, central counterparties (CCPs) and trading venues.\nExperience working in a regulated financial services environment.\nPersonal competencies\nStrong ownership mindset with a hands-on and pragmatic approach.\nCollaborative team player.\nAbility to simplify complex topics and explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills.\nComfortable working in a dynamic international environment.\nResilient and adaptable, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and drive outcomes.\nPassion for continuous improvement, learning and knowledge sharing.\nWhat's in it for you?\nAt ING, you'll work in an international environment where innovation, collaboration and personal growth are encouraged.
