Every day shows the increasing need for low-cost, reliable, and safe energy sources. Solar and wind are now the most economic sources of electricity. The challenge is affordable energy storage. An electrical grid powered by renewables requires massive investments in energy storage technologies. Lithium-ion batteries have been deployed on the grid, but the world needs solutions that are lower cost with longer lifetime and better safety, and which are not limited by raw materials availability and foreign supply chains.

At Inlyte, we are driven by a deep-seated hope based on human potential. Our team is transforming the proven sodium metal chloride battery technology into a solution to meet the energy needs of today. Made of iron and sodium, our energy storage systems are built from naturally abundant and inexpensive raw materials. Proven benefits include:

  • Low cost materials and manufacturing
  • Safe, durable in extreme temperatures, long-lifetime, with high round-trip efficiency
  • Domestically-sourced production without supply chain constraints

Inlyte Energy is backed by top tier VCs along with large industrial strategic investors and includes the pioneers and world experts on sodium metal chloride batteries on its team.

Role and Responsibilities

Inlyte Energy is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the design, development, and integration of electrical systems for our iron-sodium energy storage technology. This role is critical in shaping the battery and energy storage product architecture and ensuring the successful delivery of reliable, safe, and cost-effective battery systems across critical power, commercial and industrial (C&I), and utility markets. This is a once-in-a-career opportunity to scale a technology backed by 40+ years of research in order to shape the electrical grid of tomorrow.

This position reports to the Chief Commercial Officer. The role will require some domestic and international travel. We have a preference for Bay Area candidates but are open to a remote position. For this role you will:

  • Lead the hardware selection and design of electrical subsystems, including power conversion, protection, and control systems for battery energy storage.
  • Develop and validate system architecture including AC and DC interfaces, BMS integration, EMS interfaces, rack design, cabling, and grid interconnection.
  • Collaborate with product lead, mechanical engineering, and software engineering to ensure cohesive and manufacturable designs.
  • Support compliance with safety and regulatory standards (UL 9540, IEEE 1547, NEC, IEEE 2800, etc.).
  • Conduct design reviews, FMEA, and support third-party testing and certification processes.
  • Contribute to system controls development, testing plans, and validation protocols.
  • Support field deployments with commissioning plans, troubleshooting, and lessons-learned feedback loops.

Minimum Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 10 years experience in power systems, renewable energy, or energy storage applications.
  • Experience with field deployment and commissioning of projects, including FAT, SAT, and UAT.
  • Experience developing scopes of work and managing electrical contractors for tasks including printed circuit board (PCB) assembly, wiring, and related electrical integration activities.
  • Proficiency with power electronics, protection systems, and grid interconnection standards.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical CAD tools.
  • Strong understanding of energy storage applications, including UPS, renewable integration, and demand management.
  • Excellent cross-functional communication and project management skills.
  • Effective communicator and a good listener with integrity.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to thrive in a dynamic startup environment.
  • A champion of our Practices of Safety, Determination, Teamwork, Humility, and Joy.

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience with both lithium and alternative battery chemistries in energy storage applications.
  • Background in system-level safety engineering or protection engineering
  • Familiarity with permitting and regulatory approval processes for C&I and utility interconnections.
  • Familiarity with electrical studies tools (e.g. SKM, ETAP, PSCAD).

Benefits

  • Incentive stock options based on Bay Area comps regardless of location
  • Medical, vision, and dental insurance and short term disability (100% of employee’s insurance premium and 75% of dependants)
  • 40 hours of paid sick time
  • Hybrid commute option for Bay Area employees
  • Unlimited PTO policy
  • Compensation range for Bay Area: $166,000 - $204,000 depending on qualifications, location, and experience
