Shift: Sunday - Saturday (may include overnights + rotating routes)\nThe CDL A Transfer/Flex Driver is primarily day routes, regional driving, filling in with on-the-road and regional/local driving as needed. They are responsible for the safe and timely transportation of research products, animals, biological materials, and related cargo between company facilities and customer locations. This role provides flexible transportation support for route coverage, special assignments, and operational needs while ensuring compliance with DOT regulations, company policies, animal welfare standards, and biosecurity procedures. The driver represents the company in a professional, safe, and courteous manner while supporting customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.\nKey Accountabilities\nSafely operate commercial vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) exceeding 26,000 pounds in accordance with DOT regulations and company policies.\nShift: Sunday - Saturday (may include overnights + rotating routes) Full time position (40 hours guaranteed)\nProvide transfer and flexible route coverage for scheduled routes, vacations, absences, special runs, and changing operational demands.\nPick up, verify, transport, and deliver loads accurately and on schedule.\nAccurately complete transportation, inspection, delivery, and regulatory paperwork.\nSafely load and unload various types of cargo, including touch freight as required.\nDrive safely in varying road, traffic, and weather conditions, including heavy traffic and inclement weather.\nConduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and perform basic vehicle maintenance activities as appropriate.\nFollow assigned schedules and DOT hours-of-service requirements, including overnight travel and extended driving assignments as needed.\nUtilize maps, GPS systems, and routing instructions to navigate efficiently.\nProvide professional and courteous customer service at all company and customer locations.\nWork safely and effectively with research animals and related biological materials when applicable.\nMaintain compliance with company safety, animal welfare, transportation, and biosecurity procedures.\nMust be willing to travel to other sites across the country for weeks at a time, maximum of 3 weeks or less.\nMust be comfortable driving a variety of vehicle types from Class A 53’ Reefer Tractor/Trailer to Class C Reefer Vans and everything in between.\nMust be willing to Team drive when necessary.\nPerform other duties as assigned.\nMinimum Requirements\nValid CDL Class A license with a clean driving record.\nMinimum of 2 years of CDL driving experience preferred.\nSuccessful completion of a motor vehicle driving record check.\nAbility to safely lift, move, push, or pull up to 70 pounds repeatedly.\nAbility to safely drive for extended periods of time.\nStrong attention to detail and commitment to safety and compliance.\nAbility to follow detailed instructions and communicate effectively in English.\nStrong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.\nWorking knowledge of roads, traffic laws, DOT regulations, and safe transportation practices.\nAbility to read maps, use GPS systems, and follow routing instructions.\nSelf-motivated, dependable, and adaptable to changing schedules and operational needs.\nAbility to work flexible schedules, including overnight travel and extended routes as needed.\nWorking Conditions & Physical Requirements\nExtended periods of sitting, driving, standing, walking, bending, lifting, and loading/unloading freight.\nFrequent entering and exiting of delivery vehicles.\nAbility to safely lift and transport materials weighing up to 70 pounds.\nExposure to varying weather, road, and traffic conditions.\nExposure to animals, animal-related materials, odors, noise, and biohazards.\nAbility to work safely with animals of varying sizes, including non-human primates.\nAbility to read, interpret, and complete transportation and regulatory documentation.\nAbility to communicate effectively with customers, management, and team members.\nRequired use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as applicable.\n*This position could be offered at different levels for candidates who qualify with a combination of advanced levels of education and/or years of experience.
