However, we encourage candidates who may fall outside of this range to apply as well.\nAbout the role\nOur Claims team is growing and is looking for a Director, Engineering Department to provide national leadership to the Forensic Engineering team within a property and casualty insurance environment.\nThe team provides technical expertise in support of complex claims, including cause and origin analysis, damage assessment, risk evaluation and the development of technical recommendations.\nWe are open to considering two complementary profiles:\nAn engineering leader with experience in forensic engineering, technical expertise or claims;\nAn experienced leader of technical teams within a claim’s environment, with strong leadership, operational management and transformation experience, without necessarily having an engineering background or professional engineering designation.\nIn both cases, the successful candidate must be able to lead a national team, mobilize managers and technical experts, and ensure consistency, quality and the ongoing evolution of practices across Canada.\nWork model: Hybrid, combining office presence with regular travel to various regions across Canada.\nReporting to the Deputy Senior Vice-President, Claims, the successful candidate will lead a team of Forensic Engineering Managers located across several regions of Canada. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring national team cohesion, supporting the team’s growth and implementing the capabilities, processes, standards and practices required to meet the organization’s evolving needs.\nKey Responsibilities\nDefine the national vision, strategy and priorities for the Engineering team, in alignment with Claims and organizational objectives.\nLead, engage, coach and develop the team’s managers to ensure consistently high performance across all regions.\nFoster the development of a high-performing, inclusive management team focused on collaboration and continuous improvement.\nEstablish an effective structure, governance model and collaboration practices to support the growth and evolution of the national team.\nHarmonize processes, practices, quality standards and performance indicators while taking regional realities into consideration.\nEnsure national governance of complex technical, operational or reputational matters, ensuring that appropriate expertise, risk-management practices and escalation processes are applied.\nCollaborate with Engineering Managers and senior technical experts to ensure the quality, consistency and rigour of technical decisions across all regions.\nAdvise the Senior Vice-President, Claims, and senior leadership on technical, operational, organizational and strategic matters related to the Engineering team.\nLead or support national projects and initiatives related to transformation, continuous improvement and the implementation of new technologies.\nOversee a portfolio of complex projects, including planning, prioritization, risk management, resource management, cost management and timelines.\nDevelop and manage the national budget, as well as the capacity, resource and development plans for the Engineering team.\nMonitor results related to quality, productivity, turnaround times, customer experience and operational effectiveness.\nCollaborate closely with Claims teams and other partners across the country.\nMaintain trusted relationships with suppliers, external experts, strategic partners and professional organizations.\nEnsure compliance with the legal, regulatory, professional and ethical requirements applicable to engineering and claims activities.\nPromote knowledge sharing, innovation, succession planning and skills development within the team.\nProvide leadership on complex matters requiring a high level of judgment, coordination and national leadership.\nFoster a culture of accountability, collaboration, excellence and continuous improvement within the management team and throughout the organization.\nSkills and Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in Engineering, Applied Sciences, Technical Management or another relevant discipline. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.\nMinimum of 10 years of relevant experience in engineering, forensic engineering, technical expertise, claims or a related field.\nDemonstrated experience managing technical professionals, experts or specialized teams in a complex or highly technical environment.\nMinimum of three years of experience managing managers or other leaders. Forensic Engineering Managers with a strong track record leading technical teams and demonstrated ability and potential to lead a management team are also encouraged to apply.\nExperience leading geographically dispersed teams or operating in a multi-site environment is an asset.\nExperience in property and casualty insurance, claims or forensic engineering is an asset.\nMembership in a Canadian provincial engineering association or eligibility for professional licensure is an asset.\nStrong understanding of technical governance, risk management, quality standards and professional practices.\nExcellent strategic-thinking skills and the ability to translate a national vision into concrete and measurable action plans.\nStrong influencing, mobilization and collaboration skills with partners at various organizational levels, functions and regions.\nExperience managing complex projects, organizational transformation and change management initiatives.\nExperience in budget management, resource planning and performance monitoring.\nSound judgment and the ability to make informed decisions in a complex and constantly changing environment.\nProven ability to balance strategic, people-related, operational, financial, technical and regulatory considerations.\nExcellent communication skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with experts, managers, senior leaders and external partners.\nFor candidates based in Quebec, bilingualism in French and English is required.
