However, we encourage candidates who may fall outside of this range to apply as well.\nAbout the role\nWe're looking for an Underwriter I, Personal Lines, to join our growing team!\nThis role is a full-time hybrid position that requires two days per week working from one of our offices located in St. John’s, NL; Dieppe, NB; or Dartmouth, NS.\nIf you're looking to grow your underwriting career in a dynamic, collaborative environment, enjoy working with brokers, and bring curiosity, sound judgement, and a solution-focused mindset, we want to hear from you. \nWhat you'll do here:\nAssess and evaluate Personal Lines insurance risks while continuing to develop your underwriting knowledge and judgment.\nMake underwriting decisions on new business, renewals, endorsements and cancellations within your authority, company guidelines, and applicable laws and regulations.\nReview underwriting information, including claims history, driver records, questionnaires, and other reports, to make informed risk decisions.\nApply critical thinking and a solution-focused approach to underwriting decisions, looking beyond the immediate transaction to understand the overall risk.\nCommunicate underwriting decisions and recommendations clearly and confidently to brokers through verbal and written correspondence.\nBuild strong, collaborative relationships with brokers and internal business partners.\nBalance risk selection, customer experience, and profitable growth when identifying solutions.\nWork flexibly across different service channels, including participating in a phone queue as required, to support broker needs and changing business volumes.\nDemonstrate curiosity by asking questions, seeking to understand the “why,” and continuously building technical knowledge.\nContribute to a collaborative team environment by sharing knowledge and supporting peers.\nTake ownership of your individual development and actively work toward increasing your underwriting knowledge, capability, and authority.\nAs your knowledge and experience grow, you may have opportunities to share knowledge with peers and brokers, contribute to training, and participate in broader business and relationship-building activities.\n What you bring to the table:\nA Bachelor's Degree will be considered a strong asset and supporting success in this role. \nPrevious underwriting experience is an asset, and such candidates will be prioritized.\nPrevious experience working in a phone queue environment is considered an asset.\nA strong desire to build a career in underwriting and continuously develop technical knowledge.\nStrong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to assess information and make sound decisions.\nCuriosity and a willingness to ask questions, appropriately challenge assumptions and understand the reasoning behind underwriting decisions.\nAbility to interpret policy wordings and legal documents.\nStrong verbal and written communication skills, with the confidence to explain decisions and recommendations.\nA collaborative, relationship-focused approach when working with brokers, peers, and internal business partners.\nFoster a positive, high-performance culture that inspires teams to consistently exceed expectations, embrace accountability, and pursue ambitious outperformance goals while recognizing and celebrating success.\nStrong organization, efficiency, and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.\nA growth and solution mindset, with openness to coaching, feedback and continuous learning.\nInsurance Professional (CIP) designation completed, in progress, or willingness to complete within three years.\nNo Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.\nIl s'agit d'un nouveau rôle au sein de notre équipe en pleine croissance | This role is a new member of our growing team.\n\nWe are an equal opportunity employer\nAt Intact, our Value of respect is founded on seeing diversity as a strength.
