In this role, you’ll work with SQL Server and Snowflake database engines, and you’ll be a core part of the team’s coverage in U.S. time zones, including incident response and on-call. It’s a hands-on engineering role: you’ll investigate problems to root cause, automate repeatable work, and make production changes safely.\nWhat you will do\nTake part in the U.S. time zone on-call rotation: respond to incidents, drive mitigation, lead root cause analysis, and keep runbooks current\nOperate a multi-region SQL Server fleet on Azure virtual machines with Always On availability groups, including capacity planning and workload balancing, and administer Snowflake accounts, warehouses, role-based access, secure data sharing, and cost monitoring\nPlan and execute production changes through change management, including after-hours maintenance windows for cumulative updates, major version upgrades, failovers, and scaling\nInvestigate performance problems to root cause using wait statistics, execution plans, and Query Store, partner with product engineering on query and schema design, and work with Microsoft and Snowflake support on engine-level issues\nMaintain high availability, disaster recovery, and security controls, including backup and restore, regular recovery exercises, transparent data encryption, key rotation, Microsoft Entra ID authentication, private endpoints, and least-privilege access\nAutomate provisioning and operations with Terraform, PowerShell, and Python through CI/CD pipelines, build SQL Server and Snowflake monitoring with Grafana and OpenTelemetry, and use AI tools daily while helping build AI tooling for database operations, such as Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers\nWhat you will need\n5+ years of hands-on production experience with SQL Server as a DBA or database engineer, including on-call support for systems that run around the clock\nDeep knowledge of Always On availability groups and Windows Server Failover Clustering, including synchronization modes, failover behavior, and troubleshooting\nStrong knowledge of backup, restore, and recovery models, with experience designing and testing disaster recovery\nProven performance tuning skills (wait statistics, execution plans, Query Store, indexing, and blocking analysis) and an evidence-based approach to troubleshooting: forming hypotheses, proving them with data, and explaining root cause clearly\nExperience running SQL Server on Azure, including virtual machines and storage, virtual networks and private endpoints, Azure Key Vault, and Microsoft Entra ID\nAbility to work independently and make sound decisions during incidents when most of the team is offline, and to know when to escalate; availability for U.S. business hours, on-call rotation, and after-hours maintenance windows; and clear written and spoken English with a collaborative style across a team distributed over Europe and North America\nNice to have\nHands-on Snowflake administration, including warehouses, role-based access control, secure data sharing, and cost monitoring\nHands-on experience with Terraform and scripting in PowerShell or Python, and a habit of automating repeatable work\nExperience with recent SQL Server versions and features such as optimized locking, accelerated database recovery, and intelligent query processing\nExperience building CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps and working with Grafana, OpenTelemetry, and PagerDuty\nExperience using AI tools in engineering work, or building internal tooling such as MCP servers\nMicrosoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate (DP-300) or a Snowflake SnowPro certification, and experience supporting compliance requirements in highly regulated industries\nWhat you will gain:\nAt Intapp, you’ll get the opportunity to bring your talents and intellectual curiosity to create better outcomes for our people and our clients.
