We perform R&D on next-generation systems and technologies for the Department of Defense and other U.S. Government agencies. We are hardware and software developers with experience transforming research into fieldable technology. Our core portfolio of research includes projects in power & energy systems, unmanned systems (with an emphasis on maritime systems), digital engineering, cyber security, and advanced manufacturing. Our mission is to create a safer world by translating scientific discoveries into reliable products that address urgent national security needs… at the speed of relevance.\nCompany Benefits\nBase salaries which exceed local & national industry averages.\nYear-end performance-based bonuses.\n401(k) with company matching that vest immediately.\nInteger fully covers medical, prescription, vision, and dental insurance costs for the employee and dependents, meaning the Integer standard plan pays 100% of health insurance premiums for your entire family from a well-known national insurer, saving its employees thousands of dollars annually.\nRelocation assistance available.\nPaid vacation, sick/personal leave, and holidays.\nPaid bereavement and parental leave.\nHybrid schedule: Mondays and Fridays are optional to work from home or in the office.\nCompanyPerks\nStartup culture with the stability of a large company. Integer’s business plan has years of time phased contracted work, alleviating the would-be risk from a traditional small company.\nDirect access to company leadership, prioritization of people over process, and a stellar team with a shared desire for personal and professional growth. \nFriendly atmosphere where people enjoy not only their work and what they're creating but enjoy helping each other as well. \n About the role\nThe modeling and simulation engineer role requires a unique combination of skills that brings together vehicle dynamics expertise and experience producing and delivering modular software solutions. This engineer will develop, maintain, and tune multi-degree-of-freedom models of complex vehicle systems-such as surface and undersea vessels, aircraft, or robotic platforms-that can be used in performance prediction, controls development, and simulation framework creation. The engineer should understand how to identify and select appropriate modeling approaches and fidelity based on use cases and system requirements.\nCandidates should be capable of determining physical or hydrodynamic/aerodynamic coefficients based on limited data-through analytical methods, system identification, 3D modeling, or computational fluid dynamics (CFD). They should be experienced in developing and using dynamic models for vehicle maneuvering, control, and performance assessment. The engineer will use models to assess vehicle performance under various operational and degraded conditions and relate those results to higher-level system capabilities.\nA successful candidate will have a strong background in general software development as well as model and simulation. This role requires the use of general programming languages to create models that describe a system. The engineer will take the model through the full design lifecycle process: planning, implementation, validation, data processing, and integration into the larger system.\nThe role involves collaboration across disciplines, working both individually and in concert with other engineers and subject matter experts to connect marine craft dynamics models to models of other domains including power and energy, communication systems, and cyber models. As part of this collaboration, the engineer will be responsible for dashboarding/storyboarding to go from data to system insights and customer business values.\nInteger is a science and technology research and development organization. As such, much of our work entails developing novel solutions, working at the edge of what is technically possible, advancing innovation across a range of challenging domains. To achieve internal and customer project goals all candidates must be comfortable conducting independent research, learning new technical concepts, and documenting findings clearly for diverse audiences.\nWhat you'll do\nU.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a US DoD Secret clearance.\n8+ years of experience within technical field\nBachelor’s degree in naval architecture, marine engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, robotics, machine learning, software engineering, or other similar technical disciplines \nExperience with physics-based modeling, numerical simulation, and scientific datasets.\nUnderstanding of Digital Engineering and Digital Twins\nStrong data science/analytics background\nExperience with methodology selection based on the problem/application (potential flow, analytical modeling, high-fidelity modeling). \nExperience with meshing and discretization problems. \nDeep experience with Coordinate Frame transformations and strong grasp of dynamics/kinematics\nExperience with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling and trade-off analysis to determine adequate modeling approach\nBasic PID and control theory\nFamiliarity with Functional Mock-up Interface Standards\nExperience with multi-model simulations\nProficiency in at least one scientific development programming language (e.g., Python, MATLAB/Simulink)\nExperience with additional programming languages: Rust and/or C++\nExperience with scientific computing tools such as NumPy, SciPy, Xarray, MATLAB, or equivalent frameworks\nExperience verifying and validating models & simulations\nFamiliarity with modern development practices including Git/ADO, testing, CI/CD, code review, and documentation\nExperience and willingness to work with AI tools to efficiently accelerate development\nExcellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to interface across multidisciplinary teams and external partners\nDesiredQualifications\nFamiliarity with systems engineering and practices like MBSE and SysML V2.\nDeep technical knowledge and modeling and simulation approaches in marine vehicle dynamics and guidance (GNC) algorithms\nExperience with autopilot design and tuning.\nExperience applying naval architecture modeling and simulation tools to both surface and subsea vessels. \nExperience with geospatial data, GIS, environmental modeling, oceanography, underwater acoustics, or acoustic signal processing. \nKnowledge of autonomy frameworks, control systems, decision-making algorithms, and real-time system constraints in distributed, multi-agent environments.\nExperience with design of experiments\nExperience with uncertainty quantification and propagation\nExperience with data manipulation: filtering, processing, state estimation\nExperience with dashboarding and data storytelling to translate modeling and simulation results into actionable insights and business value.\nExperience writing software and manipulating data streams from the sensors of physical systems to update physics-based or data-driven models to reflect the status of the physical system. \nGraduate degree (M.S./Ph.D.) in a relevant engineering or applied science discipline.\nActive Secret or higher DoD security clearance.","description_format":"text","description_chars":7368,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":8,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":true,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Dental
