At Intelerad, we believe the path to answers in healthcare should be clear-whether you are waiting for a diagnosis or trying to expedite one. Our medical imaging solutions streamline the flow of information, simplifying complex processes, maximizing efficiencies, and shining a light on the unknown. We empower physicians to get patients the answers they need faster and improve outcomes for everyone. With more accessible imaging, we are getting patients out of the dark.

Headquartered in Raleigh, NC and Montreal, Intelerad has nearly 800 employees located in offices across four countries. The company empowers nearly 2,000 healthcare organizations around the world with the speed, scalability, and simplicity needed to increase business performance while, most importantly, improving patient outcomes. Intelerad’s modern enterprise solutions have been acknowledged by a Best in KLAS recognition, ranking #1 for PACS Europe UK/Ireland in the 2026 Best in KLAS: Global Software (Non-US) report.

The Manager, Software Development leads a team of software developers responsible for developing and maintaining Intelerad's medical imaging solutions that serve healthcare providers and directly impact patient care delivery. This role balances technical leadership with people management, ensuring the team delivers high-quality, secure, and compliant software while fostering individual growth and team collaboration. The Manager partners closely with Product Management, Quality Assurance, and other R&D teams to drive successful delivery of features and capabilities that meet healthcare regulatory requirements and customer expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads and develops a software development team through effective coaching, mentorship, performance management, and career development, creating an environment where engineers can grow their technical skills and deliver their best work while maintaining high standards for code quality, testing, and documentation.

  • Drives technical execution and delivery of software features and capabilities aligned with product roadmaps, ensuring the team follows established engineering practices, architectural standards, and healthcare compliance requirements (HIPAA, FDA, DICOM, HL7) while meeting committed timelines and quality expectations.

  • Collaborates with cross-functional partners including Product Management, Quality Assurance, Technical Support, and other R&D teams to ensure clear requirements, effective prioritization, and smooth delivery of capabilities that meet customer needs and business objectives.

  • Ensures operational excellence and regulatory compliance for production systems by establishing rigorous processes for code review, testing, traceability, deployment, monitoring, and incident response while maintaining the reliability and performance standards required for mission-critical healthcare environments where system availability impacts patient care.

  • Contributes to technical strategy and continuous improvement by providing input on architectural decisions, evaluating emerging technologies and methods-including the rapidly evolving agentic AI tooling landscape-and identifying opportunities to improve development processes and tooling, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence within the team and broader R&D organization.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Development, or related technical field, or equivalent experience

  • 7+ years of software development experience with at least 2 years in a leadership or team lead capacity

  • Demonstrated track record leading delivery teams and improving throughput or cycle time

  • Experience leading combined development and QA teams within an Agile framework

  • Experience leading developers/QA through changes in working practices and establishing new ways of working within an existing R&D organization

  • Proven ability to coach and develop developers, providing constructive feedback and supporting career growth

  • Hands-on experience using agentic coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Devin, Cursor, or equivalent) against a production codebase, with informed judgment about their strengths, failure modes, and limits

  • Demonstrated ability to establish team-level standards, guardrails, review expectations, quality gates, and output validation for AI-assisted development, while integrating agentic AI into a formal, auditable SDLC with traceable and evidenced contributions.

  • Understanding of architecture, design, and regulatory considerations for client-server, SaaS, and hosted/cloud-based solutions

  • Strong knowledge of programming languages, operating systems (Linux/UNIX) and databases.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to convey technical issues to a broad range of stakeholders

  • Experience with quality assurance practices including code reviews, testing strategies, and continuous integration

Preferred Qualifications & Special Requirements

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field

  • Experience in healthcare technology, medical devices, or other regulated industries, including quality management systems (e.g., FDA, HIPAA, ISO 13485, ISO 9001)

  • Knowledge of medical imaging technologies including PACS, RIS, DICOM, HL7, FHIR, or IHE integration standards

  • Experience with cloud technologies, distributed systems, or microservices architectures, including AWS services

  • Background in front-end and/or back-end development for enterprise software applications

  • Java background

  • Previous experience managing remote or distributed R&D teams, including coordinating offshore or vendor-augmented teams alongside internal staff

  • Professional release management practices

  • Familiarity with complex, multi-threaded client/server architectures and database-enabled applications.

  • Flexibility to participate in on-call rotation for production support of critical healthcare systems

  • May require security clearance or background checks depending on customer contracts and healthcare facility access requirements
