Our technology has been used in over 90,000 surgeries - supporting surgeons in the operating room during hip and knee replacement procedures, helping improve surgical outcomes, and providing valuable real-world data that informs future innovation.\nThe Position\nWe are seeking a Software Development Manager to join our R&D team to oversee the successful delivery of software products across multiple product lines. This role plans, coordinates, and manages the development and release of compliant software solutions for our medical device portfolio.\nThe Software Development Manager will lead development teams responsible for native macOS applications and web-based applications. Working closely with Product Management, Project Management, Systems Engineering, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, and Operations, this role ensures software products are delivered on schedule, meet product requirements, and comply with applicable medical device regulations and quality management system requirements. The Software Development Manager will balance flexibility and rigor in their approach and bring a proactive, delivery-focused, and customer-centric management style.\nKey Responsibilities:\nSoftware Delivery and Program Management\nAccountable for the Software Development function (people and process) from backlog refinement through inline testing\n\nFacilitate the planning, execution, and delivery of software development projects across multiple project teams.\n\nDevelop and maintain software project schedules, release plans, resource forecasts, and delivery roadmaps.\n\nMonitor project progress, identify risks and dependencies, and implement mitigation strategies.\n\nProvide regular communication based on existing KPI’s; develop new KPI’s as necessary.\n\nFacilitate cross-functional collaboration to align technical teams with business objectives.\n\nServe internal customers with excellence, ensuring business priorities are respected.\n\nAgile Leadership and Team Development\nAccountability for agile process compliance and evolution.\n\nRemove obstacles impacting team productivity and delivery performance.\n\nCoach team members to improve planning, estimation, execution, and continuous improvement practices.\n\nFoster a culture focused on quality, accountability, and continuous learning.\n\nMedical Device Compliance and Quality\nEnsure compliance with applicable medical device regulations, standards, and internal quality procedures.\n\nSupport design control activities including requirements traceability, risk management, verification, validation, and change control.\n\nEnsure software development and release artifacts are maintained within the Design History File (DHF).\n\nSupport internal and external audits, inspections, and regulatory submissions as required.\n\nLeverage a strong command of privacy and cybersecurity best practices to influence design and process.\n\nCollaborate with Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs where appropriate.\n\nCross-Functional Product Leadership\nPartner with Product Management to balance customer needs, product priorities, technical constraints, and regulatory requirements.\n\nEnsure successful product delivery by collaborating with software, systems, hardware, quality, and operations teams.\n\nFacilitate issue resolution, risk assessment, and decision-making across multiple concurrent projects.\n\nProcess Improvement and Operational Excellence\nDrive continuous improvement initiatives and change management efforts across software development and release processes.\n\nAccountable for development tooling, automation, CI/CD processes, and software lifecycle management practices.\n\nPromote scalable and efficient development processes while maintaining compliance requirements.\n\nEnsure a pragmatic, well-informed, well-thought-out, and ambitious utilization of generative AI.\n\nSkills and Experience to Enable Success:\nBachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.\n\nMinimum 10 years’ relevant experience, including 3+ years leading technical teams and managing people.\n\nExperience delivering commercial software products, through the full software development lifecycle.\n\nExperience managing Agile software development teams and release planning activities.\n\nExperience developing software for hardware-based products; DevOps experience is an asset.\n\nStrong understanding of software development methodologies, SDLC processes, and software quality practices.\n\nExperience with Jira, Confluence, Git-based workflows, and modern development toolchains.\n\nExperience in regulated industries; Experience in medical device is a strong asset.\n\nExperience supporting regulated software products, audits, verification and validation activities, and design history file documentation.\n\nStrong command of privacy and cybersecurity.\n\nPractical experience using generative AI tools.\n\nStrong project planning, prioritization, stakeholder management, and organizational skills.\n\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills; Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.\n\n Why Join Us?\nIt is unrealistic for us to believe we will find someone who fits this position 100% - interested?
