The role leads the design, development, modernization, and support of enterprise-scale applications built using Java, Spring Boot, Hibernate, REST APIs, SOAP/Web Services, and AWS cloud technologies. The successful candidate will drive engineering excellence, mentor developers, lead solution design, and deliver secure, scalable, and highly available payment solutions supporting Interac's strategic modernization initiatives.\nWhat You Will Do:\nTechnical Leadership\nProvide technical leadership for Java-based application development initiatives.\nLead solution design discussions and ensure alignment with enterprise architecture standards.\nDefine and promote software engineering best practices, coding standards, and design patterns.\nConduct architecture reviews, code reviews, and technical design reviews.\nMentor developers and foster a culture of engineering excellence and continuous improvement.\nSupport technical decision-making and technology roadmap development.\nApplication Development\nDesign, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade applications using:Java\nSpring Boot\nSpring Framework\nHibernate/JPA\nREST APIs\nSOAP/Web Services\nDevelop reusable frameworks, shared components, and integration services.\nBuild and maintain secure and scalable APIs for internal and external consumers.\nDesign and implement high-performance database solutions and persistence layers.\nTroubleshoot and resolve complex production and application issues.\n\nSolution Architecture & Integration\nDesign service-oriented and event-driven solutions.\nDevelop API contracts and integration patterns.\nImplement secure authentication and authorization mechanisms.\nCollaborate with enterprise architects to define target-state architectures.\nIntegrate with financial institutions, payment networks, and enterprise platforms.\nDelivery & Operational Excellence\nParticipate in agile planning, estimation, and sprint execution.\nEnsure timely delivery of committed features and modernization initiatives.\nDrive automated testing, CI/CD, and deployment best practices. Support release planning and production deployments.\nLead root cause analysis and remediation activities for critical incidents.\nImprove application observability, monitoring, and operational readiness.\nWhat You Bring:\n8+ years of software development experience.\n3+ years leading technical teams or major development initiatives. Proven experience delivering enterprise-scale applications in complex environments.\nExperience working within Agile development teams. Expert-level Java development.\nStrong Spring Boot and Spring Framework expertise.\nStrong Hibernate/JPA implementation experience.\nExperience developing RESTful APIs and microservices.\nExperience developing and consuming SOAP/Web Services.\nKnowledge of API versioning, security, and governance practices.\nOracle Database\nPostgreSQL\nSQL optimization and performance tuning\nData modeling and schema design\nAWS cloud services\nCI/CD pipelines\nGit-based source control\nMaven/Gradle\nDocker and containerized deployments\nStrong stakeholder management skills.\nAbility to influence without formal authority.\nStrong communication and presentation skills.\nAbility to simplify complex technical concepts for business stakeholders.\nProven mentoring and coaching capabilities.\nStrong ownership and accountability mindset.\n\nNice to Have:\nFinancial services or payments industry experience.\nInterac e-Transfer, RTR, ISO 20022, or payment modernization initiatives.\nEvent-driven architecture and Kafka.\nEnterprise integration platforms.\nHigh-volume transaction processing systems.\nCloud migration and modernization programs.\nWhat We’re Offering:\nThe hiring range for this position is $145,000 to $160,000, and you will also be eligible for our short-term incentive plan. The exact amount will depend on factors such as skills, experience, and job-related knowledge, but Interac’s commitment goes beyond compensation.
