Interns must be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience.\nIn general, the Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who:\na) have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities;\nb) are holding a scholarship for internship placements in international organizations and/or for whom internship is required to complete their studies; or\nc) are sponsored by governmental/non governmental institutions and/or academia to work in specific areas relevant to both IOM and the sponsor.\nd) are either enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) or have graduated in the last 12 months.\ne) are between 20 and 36 years of age.\nBackground Information\nImplementation of ICT requirements in accordance with IOM set standards.\nSupervision\nWorking under the Overall supervision of the Head of Resource Management and the direct supervision of the Senior ICT Executive, the incumbent will be assigned with the following learning objectives:\nLearning Objectives\nTechnical Support: Learn to troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues while adhering to organizational ICT policies. They gain practical experience in supporting end-user applications, installing and configuring IT equipment, and onboarding new employees by setting up accounts and devices.\nSystem Maintenance: Monitor system reliability and security, manage backups and disaster recovery plans, and perform routine maintenance of computers and printers.\nNetwork Management: Diagnose connectivity issues, install network equipment, run cables, label devices, and coordinate with service providers under supervision.\nSoftware Development: Take part in requirement gathering, code reviews, application testing, automation scripting, and training staff on data visualization tools.\nData Management: Tasks include organizing databases, migrating data to cloud storage, and coordinating with teams for data preparation.\nAdministrative Tasks: Interns prepare reports, manage documentation files, monitor emails/tickets, maintain IT assets inventory, and order replacement equipment.\n Required Qualifications and Experience\nEducation\nRecently Graduated (within the last one year) or Final Year Undergraduate of a university degree program in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related field from an accredited academic institution.\nExperience in networking environment (LAN/WAN) and network/desktop support.\n\nPrevious Internship experience within the humanitarian sector will be an asset.\n\nKnowledge in Database Development and Administration, Network Design and Administration, Microsoft Office Applications and Programming and Software Engineering are required.\n\nAbility to handle work efficiently with minimal supervision and understanding of the importance of close teamwork.\n\nLanguages\nFor this internship, fluency in English and Sinhalese / Tamil is required; Fluency in all three languages is advantageous.\nRequired Competencies\nIOM’s competency framework can be found at this link. Interns benefiting from an internship allowance or scholarship granted by their university or other sponsoring body that includes financial remuneration or credits for coursework will not be eligible for the stipend.\nIOM covers Interns against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan (CP), free of charge, for the duration of the internship. IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for reasons related to non-occupational accidents and illnesses.
